Personal Narrative: The Drive To Plains My Dad

Decent Essays
A few days ago my father decided to go on a hunting trip with his buddy Keith. They left early Tuesday morning at 6AM and headed out to Plains. My Dad decided to take his truck, he had recently gotten it back from my Uncle who had borrowed it the past year. During the drive to Plains my Dad realized a strange rattling noise coming from somewhere on the truck. My Uncle told my dad that it was just one of the seats loose in the back of the truck. My Dad and his buddy Keith continued on with little worry, after a few hours past everything was still going well. Keith had shot himself a nice Buck, and they loaded it in the back and continued hunting. Not long after they heard a loud pop come from the back of the truck, my Dad pulled the truck over …show more content…
He shot it about half a mile from the truck and had to drag the 250 pound buck back to the truck, that happened to be uphill. After about twenty minutes they managed to get the Buck into the back of the truck and begin home. About six miles out of Plains They heard another loud pop while driving down the Highway. They pulled over and began looking around, they realized that the rear drive shaft had completely fallen off. This most likely occurred because when my Uncle was borrowing the truck he hauled a lot of heavy equipment and did not take care of the truck. Frustrated and annoyed my Dad called me and my Mom back, he told us that the drive shaft had fallen off and there wasn't anything we could do, and that he would be home late. Unable to fix the drive shaft my Dad decided to put the truck into Four wheel drive and slowly make his way home. The truck was only able to go at about thirty miles an hour so he did not make it home till 1AM. After he finally got home i helped him hang the Buck in the garage, and heard he said he was never going to let my Uncle borrow the truck

Alan Cumming shares an insight of the destructive hardship he faced as a child in his very descriptive narrative “Not My Father’s Son: A Memoir.” His dark and frightful tone as well as his deeply illustrated word choice is consistent throughout his writing as he shares the verbal and physical abuse he received from a very young age. Cumming takes his readers back to the time where he trembles in his boots from the sheer glare of his father, declaring dominance of the latter. He begins his one-night depiction by his father’s demand for him to get a haircut - a simple task to another - but goes on to explain that his father’s anger is stemmed from unhappiness and need for power. His father never tried to hide his temper, Cumming expressed that he can be easily read by “the tone of every word he uttered, his body language, (and) the energy he brought into a room.”…

He was a tall man with an object in his hand looking like a knife, so I started panicking.…

It was a cold and chilly winter morning on November 15, 2014. I wake up to the dads black and white bearded face telling me to get ready. A few dead silent minutes later i drag myself out of bed and put on my olive drab green/camo Under Armour sweatshirt and a pair of snow camouflage pants. I then rush silently up the stairs in the low light morning and put on my dry snow boots, comfy beenie hat then grab a hunter orange coat that strangly smelled of doe urine. My dad walks up the stairs loudly with the rifle in hand and we walk out the door after getting “goodlucks” and hugs from my mom.…

I believe my grandfather, or Gong Gong as I called him in Chinese, was one of the wisest men I have ever met. He served in the Taiwanese Air Force as the Air Force Attaché to Washington, DC, and his military training made him a disciplined and goal-oriented man who had a great value of education. As a child, he always intimidated me, but now looking back to the times we spent together, his attitude towards life, opportunity and education shaped the way I approach any challenges I face today. My grandfather retired in Arizona and played a huge role in my upbringing.…

I could see a red Chevrolet truck trying to drift the corner, entering the street I live on. The truck instantly lost control and started swerving at an incredibly fast speed. Dodging the first car parked on the street and went into my front door neighbor’s lawn, slamming parallel to his white Chevrolet trucked parked in his driveway. Terrified, the driver slowly backed up into the street again.…
