Personal Narrative: The Dorm

The dorm was just how I pictured it. It was small, hot, and plain. My whole family had driven up to Uconn to help my brother, Nicholas, more into his new dorm. We were all sad, but happy for him. This room was going to be his home for the next four years.
As we brought all of his belongings inside, I remembered all of the memories he and I had with them. The Playstation 2 was our favorite. We would wake up early on the weekends and play for hours. Our favorite game was “Star Wars Battlefront” and “Greg Hastings’ tournament paintball Max’d”. I was better at Battlefront while he was better at Paintball. When we played Battlefront, we always chose to play for the rebels because we liked playing on the good guys team. The red fuzzy chair; I always sat in

It was my favorite chair that we owned. His soccer bag and soccer ball. We always went shooting together and he helped me. He showed and taught me many of the tricks that I know today. He is my biggest influence and role model. The last thing, besides his clothes, was his snowboard. We have many memories from skiing together. We love to go in the trees and to go on hard trails. However, we won't be able to go skiing at Squaw Valley together. Last year was the first year that we went, but it was so fun. There was a hotel with a pool and hottub, and it was right at the bottom of the mountain. We woke up at 8:00 every morning and got first chair on the mountain. I’m going to miss him on our ski trips. We started to set up all of the furniture and it looked much nicer than I thought it was going to be. The bunk beds were on the left side of the room, with the two desks directly across from them. His roommate's name was Bohan Lee. He was a nice, quiet kid with black hair and glasses. He liked to make dubstep music on his laptop, as well as work on his schoolwork. He was from Beijing,

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

Fall of 2013 I started the Early College Alliance, otherwise known as ECA. For those who do not know, when you first start ECA you take High School level classes, with other High Schoolers during your first semester. After teachers review your progress you’ll either be placed in College classes, because you’re what they call, “College Ready,” or you’ll take another semester of High School classes. During my second year of ECA, I was placed in EMU College classes. During this time I was exposed to an environment in which I was interacting with adults in a classroom setting, versus being in school with students in my age group.…

Last semester was definitely the hardest for me. I have two challenging research papers toward the end of the semester. I find it hard because I did not know what to write about and which assignments I should start on first. I manage to overcome this challenge by narrowing the topics and start on the paper that was closest to deadline. My stress level was at 10 because I skip meals and stayed up all night long to finish my papers.…

There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

Once upon a time I was in an enclosed elevator in Hecht Residential College at the University of Miami. As I stood there, I noticed several interesting things, such as everyone who entered were either already on their phones or immediately took them out, all not brave enough to interrupt the awkward silence. I was particularly intrigued by the resident assistants, dressed in fishnet stockings and morph suits, handing out candy to each student who entered the elevator. They were the only ones unafraid to disrupt that awkward silence. Suddenly, I had a revelation.…
