I believe that I have the potential to be a good writer, as I wrote a seven-page research paper on the way children are becoming more intelligent with the use of the internet, as they have the ability to look up an answer to a question they do not know anytime of the day. I had an easy time writing the paper because we went over everything that needed to be in it beginning with an attention grabbing thesis and ending with a powerful conclusion. I flew through writing the paper, which made me confident that I was going to get a good grade (and I did), it made me feel that I had improved my writing abilities. I also had to write an analytical paper comparing Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to a modern day problem in society. It was more difficult to write compared to the research paper because I had to compare it to a difficult read. I powered through it and was satisfied about what I wrote and in the end it made me a better writer than I previously was. With the help of these papers I believe that they provided me with the potential to be a good writer. Similarly, Sofia Gomez feels she has the potential to be a good writer. When she was enrolled in the American Institute of Monterrey (AIM), she was provided with extra help in her English grammar. She then realized that with this extra help, she had greatly improved her English skills (40). She also understood that aptitude is not always measured by grades, but by life experiences and the education one receives at home (41). Even though she needed help adapting to a new environment, she still received a good education. While Sofia Gomez and I believe we have the potential to be good writers, Amy Tan already considers herself a writer. Tan states, “I am a writer. And by that definition, I am someone who has always loved language. I am fascinated by language in daily life. I spend a great deal of my time thinking about the power of language
