Anna Maria Island is a special place to visit in Florida. This beautiful barrier island is located in Manatee County on Florida's west coast in the Gulf of Mexico. I've been there three times to stay at my Papa and Grandma's condo on family vacations, and I am fond of it there! When we visit, we see beautiful palm trees and nature, and we go to many wonderful places on the island. One place I really love is Fire and Stone Pizza!…

At one point in most everyone's life they dream of making a difference in their community. They want to make it a better place. This is one of many dreams that I wish to accomplish. My plan is to use this scholarship to help set a better example for the younger generation in my tribal community. My hope is that by attending college and bettering myself, then the youth within the tribe will follow my lead and decide to do the same; whether it be going to college one day or to just be a better person in general.…

The parallels of the creation stories of the Hawaiian’s and that of Hinduism is too evident to not compare. While the stories have many variances, the context and effect in their particular region is almost identical. Both stories tell of a time where emptiness and unknowns were the norm, however the stories of Kumulipo and Purushasukta parallel in the creation of the world as we know it through a specific event whether it be the sacrifice of the ultimate being or a night of creation. The parallelism of the creation stories is not a mere act of coincidence, as we would later discuss of the parallels of Zoroastrianism and Christianity with both having a constant battle of good and evil.…

I was flying, high up in the atmosphere, zooming past clouds, skirting birds, and basking in the hot sun. The sky, a never-ending vast expanse of teal blue, surrounded me, as I flew somewhere. I felt like I was on top of the world. The air rushed past me creating a soft whistle in my ear, but making my body cool. I don't know why, but I was so excited and joyous.…

Hawaii, the home of white sand beaches, pro surfing, hula dances, and warm weather. If I could move to any region within the United States, I would move to Hawaii with no hesitation. Hawaii contains a prestigious hospital and the opportunity to become a surfer. Both of which of which I have always dreamed of being a part in. Nothing would make me happier than becoming an orthopedic surgeon operating out of a Hawaiian hospital working on shark attack victims and other unlucky victims who need orthopedic repair, then go straight to the beach to surf and relax for the remainder of the day.…

A metaphor to thoroughly interpret my own cultural identity would be the coconut delicacy known as Haupia. Not only for its elegant perplexion, but for the soft clouded stature that belongs to this alien creature, which taste is only permitted to the fortunate few occupying the native islands of Hawaii. Another perplex root in the tree of my culture is Lei-making. The breathtaking row of an aligned set of flowers to form the Lei is one of the prime connections to the base of the hawaiian culture by contributing to the ancient craft itself. A more well-known phenomenon that had one of its origins among the islands of Hawaii and is still dwelled upon to this day is surfing.…

Throughout my seventeen years of living in the United States, I honestly haven't traveled outside my home town much. One trip I was fortunate enough to experience was my church mission trip to New York to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in 2013. Going into this trip I didn't know what to expect. Would I be moved to tears or uneffected? What I did know was that this trip was going to be a completely new experience; like nothing I've ever done.…

A VOLCANO TRAGEDY January 15 , 2004 was the tragic day that a volcano had erupted. It all happened so fast like in a blink of an eye everything was so dark and magma was gushing out like a gusher candy. We realized that we where in the ring of fire , after the tragedy had passed. Before all that happened me and my family decided to head for safety in a gym where thousands of people were panicking trying to find out what was going on. All I could get from the gym was water, food, a fire blanket , and a flashlight , but in my head all I can think about is how are we going to survive?…
