Personal Narrative: The Day I Tore My ACL

January 11, 2015 will be a day I remember forever; the day I tore my ACL and meniscus at a competitive soccer practice. I was in tears; absolutely devastated. I had heard about athletes who retired their cleats altogether as a result of this injury. Soccer was my life and I had dreams of playing in college one day.
I had my surgery over a month and a half later on February 27, 2015. Afterwards, my muscles deteriorated, I started eating less, and lost about 20 pounds. Although this injury is surely the most physically agonizing thing I have experienced, the mental aspect was unbearable; I felt alone and helpless.
The start of my physical therapy changed my mindset, providing me with a newfound determination.
