Personal Narrative: The Day I Learned From Moving To Arizona

Improved Essays
I used to believe that when I moved to Arizona and started at a new school that every single thing that could go wrong, would go wrong. It had only been two days since school started and I already irritated my teacher. I was never a silent child, I would easily get bored and start to blurt out answers or talk to the person beside me. Mrs. Edgar told me to walk outside and speak with her about the issue. At first I was scared that she would send me to the office. For a moment, I was stuck on my seat like there was super glue on it, fearing the consequences of disrupting her class. Eventually I hesitantly got up from my seat and followed her outside. “I understand that you are a very energetic and talkative person Erfan.” She said as I kept my head down. “I’m sorry Mrs. Edgar… it won’t happen again.” …show more content…

I always tell you to stop talking and I give multiple warnings yet you still talk when you are not allowed to, I am sick of it!” she said with frustration. I was sitting outside, just thinking of all the trouble I was in when she talked to my parents and told them that I kept interrupting her class. I also thought about what she said. It was the first time in my life that a teacher talked to me in a kind tone even when I was being annoyingly troublesome. Everyday past that day I would try my best to be quiet and listen to her. It was rare for me to like a teacher since I always thought they were evil and didn’t care about their

Before I came to Arizona, I was having suicidal thoughts on a daily basis and I had just attempted suicide for the seventh time. A universal theme for me moving from Texas to California is overcoming. I was 8 years old when my family moved, and had to overcome knowing no one, a new school, and being out of my comfort zone. At this age you tend to start making good friends, all hang out in groups, and be less adventurous. My parents kept saying, “Find people who like the same things as you, and everything else will be easy”. The next week I did just that.…

At the end of a gym class, my classmate named Justin was about to face the worst possible punishment: he would lose his entire sticker chart and have no free time for a week. This was because our PE teacher was going to report him to Mrs. Hadyk. The problem in my mind was that I hadn’t seen him do a single thing wrong during that class. Now, he and I had barely shared a single social exchange outside required partner work, and he was known to misbehave on a regular basis, but this time I just felt awful for him because he hadn’t done anything to deserve these consequences. It was milling in my mind until we got back to our classroom, and when everyone was back in the classroom, I asked Mrs. Hadyk if I could talk to her in the hallway alone.…

School was never interesting enough to keep me in check. Children are supposed to have fun after all, and schools never offered fun ways to learn. In return, I didn’t offer my attention. I just had to be one of the few people in my class that always spoke back to the teachers, always tried to stir a little bit of trouble without causing harm to any person, and was always just a tad bit too comical at all the wrong times. Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, it is how I had to attend the cultural day that the school was overly excited about – their enthusiasm clearly shown through the badly drawn pictures and the grey monotonous photos on the walls.…
