Sometimes coaches pick favorites. They choose who earns a spot in the front row by who goes to their studio, or whose parents volunteer the most. Not based off of who deserves the spotlight, only who they like. I know all sports have this problem (let's face it, every team has a “coach's pet”) but why? Why should the girl who works the hardest be hidden in the back,or play the least? Especially when she is just as good, if not better, than the girl in the front? Why does playing time get determined by how long a parent has known the coach; why does her daughter get to be front and center? ? It is not fair, and it needs to be changed.

The dancers who get cut from a routine usually cannot do the skills or tricks that are required to compete that certain routine. At least that is what they tell us. In my case however, I could do all of the tricks. Tryouts could not have gone any better, I nailed that routine every single time we performed it earlier that year. So why was I cut? They chose me so to satisfy her mom who does all the work; they chose me so that their favorite could perform. I got replaced with a girl who did not try to master her tricks at all, or work to perfect the routine. This girl just so happens to go to the studio of the assistant coach, and this girl's mom just happens to plan all of our fundraising events and complete all of the team's financial paperwork. What a coincidence! Of course she gets to compete even though she cannot do any of the skills, she is the favorite. Once again, how is that fair? I worked outside of practice to perfect every single skill, I put in all of my effort yet I get punished. Favoritism is
