Personal Narrative: The Dallas Cowboys Game

Decent Essays
One ritual my family experiences is having an early Thanksgiving dinner and watching the Dallas Cowboys game. The tradition starts late on the night before thanksgiving. We start by ordering pizza, and then we begin prepping dinner for Thanksgiving Day. My sister and I prepare the side dishes, while my mother, aunt and grandmother make all the main dishes and desserts. We usually stay up all night finishing dinner prep, watching television, and cracking jokes. The next morning we all get up and early around nine in the morning to finish all of the food and set up the dinner table. We usually finish everything around noon and then we are ready to eat. Many of our family members and friends from both sides of my family come over to eat with at my home. Before we eat, we pray and each of us announce what we are thankful for this year. We then all sit around the table and eat. After we all eat, everyone usually gets so full that we all lay down and take naps until the game comes on .After naps everyone gets up and finds a spot around the television to get ready for the game. My grandmother puts on her cowboy jersey and from there on the next couple of hours is loud noises, cheering, and fun. After the game, everyone …show more content…
We began experimenting new things because we moved far away from most of our family so we started a new tradition. On Thanksgiving Day there is usually between 6- 20 people that stop by our home each year. This holiday is also like a celebration and is more prevalent with Black families in my culture. We pray is because we are Christians and we have to make sure we give thanks for everything we have received and give praise to our higher power. It is also a huge part of my culture to watch and be involved in sports. Football is not only major in my culture, but also in my city of origin. My hometown is the Dallas Fort worth area so everyone I know is a huge Dallas Cowboys

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for all of the wonderful people in one’s life. Thanksgiving shouldn’t be ephemeral because it’s a long celebration with loved ones surrounding you. Before every meal, my grandfather prays no malice upon us for the rest of our lives. For that moment in time, it feels as if God is rinsing the evil away because of my grandpa’s prayer. The feast isn’t opulence but that doesn’t matter because we don’t need luxurious things.…

How do you celebrate Thanksgiving? Did you know it's probably different than how The Early Americans celebrated Thanksgiving. Recently I learned that I celebrate different then they Early Americans and some of my Friends and their families. The Early Americans were less fortunate them people today and they didn’t use forks to eat their meal and they certainly didn’t have an oven to cook their food. I got a chance to sit down with Grace Baggerly and talk to her about the similarities and differences between our Thanksgiving celebrations.…

Game Day I woke up thinking, It's game day. I was as nervous as a mouse surrounded by a cat. My 13-year-old baseball team was playing the team that won the championship two years in a row. I kind of thought we all were nervous because if we lost that meant we go home and nobody wanted to go home. Since I was awake early in the morning I thought I should do my daily routine of stretching and eating my oatmeal and salad.…

Within the kitchen, a sweet aroma of sugar, chocolate, and caramel penetrated the air around us. My family joyfully cooked and sang along to the holiday favorite “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas,” while the dog, Shadow, sneakily made its way near the goodies. Just as any other family get together, my grandmother gathered us all around and snapped pictures of this moment. Each year, this moment is captured, new recipes are prepared, families grow older, and most importantly, family is gathered together as one. Along with every other family, my family holds norms, values, and traditions that have been passed on from generation to generation.…

Psalms 107:8:9 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. As I have gotten older Thanksgiving has easily become one of my most favorite holidays of the year. It 's not because of all the amazing food, fun gatherings with family and friends and football (which all of these things are great reasons) but because it allows me to reflect back on the year and in my life and it truly allows me to count my blessings. I love this holiday because unlike Christmas there is no gifts involved.…

Growing up in a traditional family brought to my life both sweet and unpleasant tastes. During my childhood, I was surrounded by family dinners, pleasant relatives, cozy houses that smelled like fresh traditional food and BBQ. In my memories I only have that image of seeing my uncles, cousins, grandparents and friends greeting with enthusiasm and fervor. Christmas was incredibly delightful. The tree was filled with bright decorations and endless lights that never missed our home.…

Almost every person has standard family traditions and things people do every year. In other words, another ongoing tradition my Aunt Sara and I do every year is decorate for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. On November 23rd, we have a family gathering and have a meal together that night or the next day bright and early we blast the Christmas music and decorate for the holiday season. We decorate the tree with family heirlooms, homemade ornaments, lights, Christmas pickle, and the star to top it off. This has been a tradition for as long as I can remember.…

After all the cleaning, we would get dressed (meaning we had to look very presentable) and ready to head over to grandpa’s house. Once we got there, we would hang out with my grandpa, aunt, and cousins until food was ready. Then we would sit around the table and eat together. My cousins, siblings, and I would always rush through our meal because we were excited (and impatient) to finish and get to the opening of presents. Our rushed tactics never worked because it was the adults who controlled the timing of events and they made sure to take their time.…

I wouldn't say that my family has traditions when it comes to holidays because its nothing special. For example for Thanksgiving, every year, most of my family agree's to go to one house. From there, we usually just hang out and wait to eat. For dinner we usually have a turkey, tamales, mashed potatoes, ham, etc. Nothing really special happens on Thanksgiving because all we do is hang out with family and that is basically it.…
