Personal Narrative: The Cream City Real Estate

Having visited The Cream City Real Estate, I gained new insight about the building. One things I learned immediately was that the building wasn’t always a real estate. Upon entering the building, I was greeted by a friendly staff member, she served as an information provider and or tour guide. The building was pretty compacted, and contained a number of artifacts. The guide provided me information such as the history of the building, what the building serves as now, and the significance or purpose of the building.

The building was originally constructed in 1923 as St. Francis State Bank, but the bank closed during the Great Depression. It started to be used by the Beyer Printing, by 1934, and in 1943 it became a Knights of Pythias Lodge. The old-fashioned

The significance of the building is pretty understandable. Since Milwaukee was given the nickname “The Cream City” in the 19th century, the idea came to them to name the building, Cream City. The buildings before The cream colored brick that was commonly used in the construction of buildings throughout the city gave Milwaukee’s nickname. The brick was made of local clay which turned a buff/yellow color when fired. The building was made use for multiple purposes during the 19th century. One of those purposes was it serving as a bank, which lasted for a while until being used for another
