Each semester the total cost for my schooling is $8,284.00, since I am currently receiving help from the U.S. Military, they pay for roughly $3,599.00 of my schooling cost, and I thank them so much for their help, but my parents are left with a total of $4,487.00 to pay on their own and it has become a strain on them. I have a younger sister who is in high school who loves playing sports and recently she has come up with the idea of trying to join a volleyball league, which means more money. I tried to tackle the college application process as honestly as I could. I knew I was not the smartest or the most talented applicant in a sea filled with thousands of application, but I knew I was unique. There was and still is only 1 me, Brian Bristol, on the entire planet. I used this knowledge to my advantage and did my best to convey my story to each college I applied to. Being transparent throughout the application process is underappreciated among high school students, and the fact that I was able to express myself was looked upon favorably by many colleges.…

My past laid out upon a table. My GPA, my resume, my test scores. An unfamiliar man whom I met for the first time was frowning, turning around in his creaky red chair, while hurriedly trying to contextualize my life with just a few pieces of paper. For 15 minutes, he sat there, unhappy, tapping his foot, analyzing what I’ve “done” with my life. He took a sip of water and suggested that I go to community college.…

My decision to attend HACC was due to financial needs. Originally, my educational plan was to attend Penn State Harrisburg as a double major in Political Science and Psychology, to which I have already been accepted. However, the opportunity to attend a community college with a very strong relationship with my main institution was one I could not pass, especially given the lower cost of attendance and high transferability of credits. My goal is to transfer or graduate from HACC without having accumulated debt so that my time at Penn State Harrisburg will go smoothly and be most worthwhile. I feel fervent that I have made the best decision for my current life situation.…

My college search has been centered on two main components, the first is being a small liberal arts school and the second is money. I first discovered Vassar while reading the Fiske Guide to College. I liked the school enough to take a day and participate in a campus tour and information session the campus was absolutely beautiful, the history was intriguing and the quirky facts, like how the college had been banned from competing in world records due to fibbing about their longest unsupported tree branch, drew me in but diversity is what made me fall in love with Vassar. Not just the overall diversity of the students that attend Vassar but individual’s diversity. Review after review have stated that Vassar’s students can’t be placed in a box…
