Personal Narrative-The Controversy Of Being Gay

The air is filled with typical school cafeteria ambiance, the sounds of screaming kids, people chewing with open mouths and folding cards. Fifteen minutes into the freshman-sophomore lunch period and I’m ranting off the ears of every person nearby. This is a handful of people, considering the table is so packed I barely have any arm space. The topic at hand is rather controversial, causing most of the kids to sit idle. Desperate to make every point that comes to mind, I don’t allow for anyone else to get a word in. Not a single person could have the chance to disagree with what I had to say, that is until I’m abruptly cut off by the boy next to me. “Being gay is wrong. It says so in the Bible.” he states matter-of-factly. “Care to elaborate? Perhaps have any evidence to back that up?” I asked smugly. Was I just not getting through to him? Was he just not getting it? I couldn’t fathom how someone could hold such hypocritical beliefs. I sit in my room attempting to recall the verses the boy showed me at lunch. My eyes gravitate towards the Bible sitting on the dresser across the room. I pick it up and dust it off. The spot in which the book had laid before has a thin layer of dust surrounding where it sat, like a chalk outline of a body at a crime scene. I open up to the verses and attempt at interpreting the old English words on the page. Finding no way to spin the verses of Timothy 1:10 to my favor, I turn to the internet and type in the verse name, in hopes to find something that could improve my argument. I manage to print out several lengthy articles pertaining to cultural contexts of the Bible verses regarding homosexuality, mistranslations, and misinterpretations of said verses and the rarity of its mentionings and its minor degree of importance. I anticipated the next day, confident I’d be able to get him to change his
