I stayed up late only going to bed in the early hours of the morning, revisiting the data I had previously read, but with a fresh perspective.
The Conroy house was in a respectable part of town and the back garden sloped down toward the Cold Mountain River. The yard was fenced off, and on the other side was a bitumen walkway, which meandered along the river’s edge.

Perhaps it was clichéd and tacky to think this, but - not this time and not on my watch! I reacquainted myself with information about my prime suspect, Bobby Cutler - a local bad boy, who had already left school and worked in his family’s butcher shop in 1976. He was not only the ‘prime suspect’ but according to the Angelic Counsel, ‘the murderer’. From my last 3 years of running cross county I have learned a lot of things. One is that you should never give up, second is that if you work hard enough then you can achieve whatever you put your mind to, and third is how you can go from disliking something to loving something. How I've learned these things from cross county is when I first started cross country, my sophomore year I couldn't run to save my life. Coach would always time us on how fast we could run two miles and I would always be last and be so far behind everyone else which was quite embarrassing but I couldn't help it I had just started and I'd never ran before in my life, at my very first meet I couldn't even run the first mile and I ended up having to drop out. After that I didn't like cross county at all because I wasn't good at it…

The crisp breeze rustled my hair as I walked out of my house on the fall September day with my dad drilling instructions into my head. It was my first Little League baseball game ever, and my dad wanted to make sure it wasn’t my last. Being seven years old and never touching a baseball was something that had scared me; a lot. I had no idea what to think about this foreign, petrifying, game could possibly be about. The car ride from my house was only a few minutes away from the fields where I would begin my baseball career.…

I was 13 years old, just starting off high school, when I realized what this dark cloud that’s been floating over me for the past couple of months really is. It wouldn’t be until more than a year later until I seek out professional help. It started off innocently enough as just a feeling of constant emptiness at the pit of my stomach. It slowly turned into randoms bouts of extreme rage, where I’d take out my anger physically, not just on the walls and mirrors of my childhood home and not just on my family, but on myself. I couldn’t understand why I felt this way, why I wasn’t “normal”.…

The Wet had awoken me again. Much like the patients of the hospice ward, it too had taken permanent residency amongst us feeble, withering souls. Its humid and ungodly presence magnified the discomfort I felt laying between the crisp, sterile sheets of the hospital bed. My senses were only exposed to the incessant beeping of heart monitors, the irritating glare and buzz of the fluorescent lights and the wretched stench of the Wet. But a soft glare from the moon that bathed the room with light radiates a strikingly minimalistic but beautiful aura.…
