My residential community has had a great impact on me. The community provides an ideal atmosphere to meet a variety of people. Not only does the residential community promote diversity and inclusion, but it has also granted me the unique opportunity of leading in a college atmosphere. After arriving at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, I started spending most of my time in the lobby because my room did not have air conditioning. While in the lobby, I met a racially and geographically diverse group of people.…

I have worked with many families in the past, and I believe I have applied some of the humility, compassion and positivity that the textbook talks about. I believe that the knowledge that is gained through textbooks and by attending classes is important as well as the skills that are gained through practice when working with families. In my personal experience, I come from a very poor family, which allows me to be humble with those families who are in need. I have experienced the separation of parents, the absence of basic needs, like clothing or food, and I have also experienced the anxiety of being undocumented. I think that as I gain the knowledge and skills, I will be able to integrate it with my personal experiences and I will be able…

Whether it was an asthma exacerbation, aortic dissection, or costochondritis, I needed to think and prepare for every possibility. However, my thoughts were soon interrupted by my partner, who turned off the sirens and picked up the radio. “Dispatch, this is Rescue three.…

Although it took me quite some time to realize, I have been preparing for my major and career all my life. When I started fifth grade, my teacher fostered my love for reading by challenging me to read books that were much more difficult for my grade level because they addressed heavy subjects. He recommended that I read Flowers for Algernon, and it became the very first book that made me feel shock, heartbreak, joy, and frustration all in a single read.…
