Personal Narrative: The Color Of My Hair

Decent Essays
Mrs. Davie, Hair is one of the many ways to express one's individuality. The style, the color, the care of it- it all provides insight to who that person is and how they express themselves. My hair, as of now, is the definition to the 'Molly' I perceive myself to be. But my hair, to you, seems to be the definition of distracting and/or unprofessional. So my question is, how does my hair come to be distracting and/or unprofessional? The handbook states that hair "must appear in a naturally occurring color," but it does. My highlights lay hardly noticeable, they're soft, and blend nicely into my blonde hair. So technically, one could argue that my hair does, in fact, "appear" as a natural occuring color. Nonetheless, I have numerous classmates that agree with my side of this story. They talk to me about how they didn't even notice my recently done change, until another student pointed it out to them. It's virtually invisible to those who don't know that the pink exists. The pastel highlights do exactly what they're supposed to do- they highlight my true color. I disagree with the thought of me breaching the student handbook because my hair is naturally occuring. If I had gone to the salon that day and put in red highlights, or black highlights, or black …show more content…
My question to you, Mrs. Davie, is if no one had pointed out my highlights to you, would you still have noticed them? I'd like to suggest that if you plan on denying the dye or coloring of one student's hair, you should deny the dye or coloring of all student's hair. Because no hair that has been to the salon is natural. Any dye that has been applied to a person's strands, whether it was a brunette color to a blonde color, or a blonde color to a red color, the new style isn't natural to the person - it is not their own natural occuring

“Ginger” and “little red” and “copper head” and the ever so famous “carrot top” were just a few of many nicknames that once taunted my childhood. It seemed to be that I did not have a name, but rather I was just “the redhead.” Always sticking out like a sore thumb, I was surrounded by a family of dark brown hair and undoubtedly seemed to be the only child in the class with the uncommon genes of fiery red hair, a galaxy of freckles that covered my body, and the fairest of skin that would burn at the slightest of interaction with the sun. As a result of the little resemblance I share with my family, people often mistaken me for someone else’s child or demanded an explanation.…

    Essay On Ombre Dying

With an ever-changing society, I have noticed that within the last 5 years both my friends, my peers, and I have adopted the innovation of ombre dying our hair. Ombre dyed hair appears to gradually get lighter throughout the length of the hair, meaning that the roots of the hair are the darkest in color and the ends of the hair are the lightest in color. Ombre dying can occur with any color hair, and can even occur in the form of a reverse ombre, where the roots are the lightest part of the hair and the ends are the darkest. The practice of ombre dying hair was adopted on the basis that it was a way to change your hair without making a drastic change to your full head of hair. Ombre dying stays within the color palette of your hair color and often doesn’t require your entire hair to be dyed so you can still have aspects of your…

Growing up in an economy where every model has long luscious hair and it is flowing in the pictures it is common for young girls of African descent to ‘perm’ or ‘relax’ their hair in order to achieve the mainstream goals of beauty. I along with many other members of my family have tried to achieve said beauty. Natural hair however is harder to maintain and in itself rewarding. Life with my relaxed hair was what most would call easy. A simple part and press in the morning…

Chop It All Off Two years ago, I had long, luscious, golden blonde hair that fell down to my waist, and I absolutely hated it. Everyone else seemed to love it, though, so I kept it. I dealt with the static, the lengthy drying time, and the hours of styling that I had dealt with ever since I was little, all because I wanted to be loved and accepted. I wanted to fit into the box of typical girls my age who all had the exact same haircut so that I would be considered “pretty” by the rest of my classmates, but I felt miserable in that box and I didn’t know how to escape.…

Should schools be allowed to ban makeup? High school in Australia begins at the average age of 13 where your begin year 7 and ends at the age of 18 in year 12. My high school was split into two campuses – years 7 to 9 and one and years 10 to 12 at the other. The first campus, 7 to 9, was a lot harsher about the uniform policy, skirt 10 cm above the knee, tie and top button done up, the usual stuff, and of course for the girls in particular, no makeup. This coursed some rebellious young women, like myself, to get into trouble quite a few times for breaking this useless rule.…

American society accepting something simple such as a hair texture has allowed me to feel welcomed in American society. Society has previously created a demeaning relationship between ethnic hair and professionalism. For instance, natural hair is labeled and unprofessional, while white, straight hair is known as professional. As a woman of color, working two jobs (both high positioned on campus) I was not discriminated because of the texture of my hair. Professionalism is being an expert at a specific skill and my hair should not affect my abilities to do my job in a workplace.…
