Personal Narrative: The College Transfer Success Class

Improved Essays
When this new semester started, I was excited. I love new beginnings and I just knew that this semester would be filled with easy classes and good grades. I’m pretty sure every college student in the world thinks like that. Before I knew it though, I was staying up all times of the night trying to figure out how I could get my grades up. Don’t be like me. I was a horrible procrastinate and I never had my priorities straight. I always end up regretting that. Do what you need to do and strive for the clouds. Every time I began a new semester I have my mind set that I will get all my work turned in on time. I always tell myself, that I will try as hard as I possibly can to be the great person I know I can be. I always seem to start off on time, …show more content…
Although the class is shorter than most classes, I learned so much. It taught me everything I needed to know about transferring and also how to live my life after school. This class teaches you what to look for when transferring. This class teaches you what college is all about, what your goals should be; your learning strategies, and it even teaches you a little about yourself. For instance, one week we were instructed to complete a self-evaluation. This is how I confirmed that I was a procrastinator. I figured out that I waste a lot of my time on nonsense. This is when I came up with the plan to distribute my classes. Although this class was super easy, I still managed to procrastinate on some of the assignments. I assigned this class to Thursday, which meant that I was supposed to do all of the assignments for the week on Thursday. Because I procrastinated on the other classes, I found myself doing Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s work on Thursday, which meant that I had to do ACA 122 on Friday. It’s super easy to procrastinate but super hard to come up from the mistakes you’ve made. I wish someone would have told me to stick it out from the beginning, because I wouldn’t have been spending so much time and rushing to get other things

Although I’ll admit I’ve procrastinated at times, for the next two years I look forward to avoid doing so because I know, from past experience, how terrible a habit it is. In middle school, I made the wrong choice and procrastinated very often, forming a bad habit that I brought to PACE ninth grade. Because middle school curriculum was significantly easier, procrastination was not a significant problem, but in high school it definitely became one. It was then I realized if I…

More importantly, why do I always procrastinate? When students procrastinate, they are deliberately participating in a behavioral problem which “involves delaying a task which needs to be accomplished” not just for homework assignments, but for any task involving school work such as studying (Asikhia). As the semester comes to an end, students find themselves…

I tried to tackle the college application process as honestly as I could. I knew I was not the smartest or the most talented applicant in a sea filled with thousands of application, but I knew I was unique. There was and still is only 1 me, Brian Bristol, on the entire planet. I used this knowledge to my advantage and did my best to convey my story to each college I applied to. Being transparent throughout the application process is underappreciated among high school students, and the fact that I was able to express myself was looked upon favorably by many colleges.…

After completing Unit 1 this is my assessment: I was excited that I finally completing Unit 1 this past Friday. So I pat myself on the back for putting in long hours and hard work of writing, editing, revising my assigned written material, before it was due. Upon treating myself, with butter pecan ice cream, for this accomplishment, I began to revisit everything in Unit 1. And when I looked at my assignments and waiting for my grades to show up in the "Gradebook" tool tab, I had made some frightening discoveries.…

In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…

During the college search process, I've learned that I am a take-charge person. Before applying to college I did not have an older sibling or parent telling me what to do, therefore I had to figure everything out myself; which included family trips to visit colleges, the application process, and countless meetings that I made with my counselor to make sure I was on track. A personal tradition that my family has is that every Sunday morning my father cooks all of us pancakes and we sit and eat together before we go to church. Although having pancakes every week may seem like it would get old, it has the opposite effect, and I look forward to the quality time with my family every week.…

During my first years as a high school student, I usually procrastinate on my assignments because I couldn’t balance the workload between my most challenging classes, which was my Honors English class and my AP European class. As a result, I end up having to choose between them as to what assignment I have enough time to do. That school year was one of the hardest for me. I was able to stay on track and handle my workload by writing down everything I had to do. To-do lists were very helpful for me…

Sophomore year has been an interesting year so far. The first day I walked into AP World History (aka WHAP) confident, but slightly nervous for the workload to come. It was just an intro-first day type of thing, but Chapter 1 had already been assigned. I remember thinking “All ready? It’s just the first day of school!”…

I would say that I learned the most about what it really means to have time management after this semester. Entering my first semester of college I had blind faith in the University, and myself because I believe everything would just work out and I would pass because it was meant to be. However, fate and hope are no the things to help you life as a new college student. The drive to wake up, attend class, finish homework, and accept the new responsibility that had been placed in my novice hands diminished greatly as the non-academic temptations became to creep in my head. I must be honest with you and let you know that I did cave and willingly participate in the sweet release of social experiences.…

My first semester of college has been an intersting learning experience. It has been full of ups and downs. I’ve learned a lot since being in college, mostly how to take charge of my life and get my priorities straight. As a result of procrastinating, the work is not done properly or is as good, if I had worked on it earlier. And I usually end up rushing my work and doing it last minute. But, this is not a rare problem with students, as in a study done by the American Psychological Association shows that around 80 to 90 percent of college students procrastinate.…
