Personal Narrative: The Children Project

Decent Essays
I do not have a website for the Children Project. It was a small project, and I mainly gather with friends and students who have the same interest as mine in terms of volunteering. I mainly did it during summer and winter break (since I could visit Cambodia during that time). A friend of mine and I thought about working on some projects to assist the underserved population in the community, so we initiated our interests into this project.

I love doing this type of community service. Unfortunately, I am no longer a coordinator for this great project since I need to devote more time for my academic work at UC Berkeley.
A friend of mine and a co-founder of this Children Project is Mr.Monirath Siv. He went to Washington University in St.Louis

While searching online for a new place to volunteer, I began looking into Pass it Along, a non-profit organization committed to helping teenagers become confident and compassionate through self-discovery, volunteering, and leadership. Through Pass it Along, I found an opportunity to volunteer with SCARC, the Sussex County Association for Retarded Citizens, and help people with developmental disabilities. Our road trip consisted of volunteering at Sparta Lanes with both Pass it Along and SCARC and helping and encouraging the participants to bowl in preparation for the Special…

I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…

I really love working serving kids, and I am really passionate about it. In India, I went to this home for orphaned kids. I helped raise some money with a group, and we donated it to the kids for their education. I also took part in this volunteer group project, which lasted about a week. We would go to the nearby lake, which was extremely polluted, and pick up the trash.…

The Americana World Community Center was an organization that I was involved in during High School. It is a nonprofit in Louisville, KY that helps refugees, immigrants, and the underserved populations. During my time at Americana I helped the kids with school work and played different games with them. I'm very passionate about this program because I love how much it helps out all the struggling kids and families. It gives the kids a safe place to learn and have fun, and it was amazing to see how excited some the kids got to see me.…

I am the oldest child. I have two younger siblings who I love unconditionally, but life as the oldest child is not the picnic most people think it is. I know this probably sounds cliché, becoming who I am because of my siblings, but it is the truth without them I would not be the person I am today. When I was four years old my mother became pregnant with my sister. My sister, Madison was born seven months before I turned five.…

It was a Saturday morning March 17, 1996 I was eight months in my mother’s tummy and my due date was in mid April. Uncle Benito had the crazy idea of going to the snow all because my mother had never seen the snow. My mother told me of a hill she sled down from, a great slope that didn’t leave her feeling to good “No me siento muy bien.” My uncle rushed her to Granada Hills Hospital on the morning of March 19, 1996; I was born seven pounds at eight minutes until eight.…

Some positive change that I dream of making include increasing the wellbeing of underprivileged children, families, and veterans by doing everything I can to provide them with anything they need. I also wish to change the veterinary medicine industry by discovering new techniques and methods in order to further benefit and relieve the animals and their owners that are involved. Ever since my sophomore year in high school, I have volunteered with a multitude of organizations that strive to aid those who are less fortunate than others. In regards to underprivileged families and children, I have worked with local organizations such as Backpack Beginnings, Pathways Center, and YWCA Family Shelter. Backpack Beginnings packs lunch boxes and school supplies in backpacks for students who don’t always have a lunch or have all of their school supplies needed for their classes.…

First day of my social work practicum – Today I arrived at the agency as early as 7:40 in the morning. Upon entering I am already looking in speaking with my supervisor and talk about what I will do on my first day. My supervisor is very accommodating, we started our conversation by discussing some matters such as: attendance, tasks, requirements, cases and other personal information. I also assumed that I would get my first case today however, I did not receive any as I still have to learn and familiarize myself to the agency’s protocols and procedures. My supervisor provided me reading material, manual of operation and forms that I would for the case management.…

From childhood to adulthood, my life has been full of interactions; from the people that I’ve met, to the places that I’ve been. These interactions are full of contexts that have impacted the person I am and shaped the way I see the world. The most influential context is my gender. There are certain things – like my mindset and personality – that I hadn’t noticed had been affected so drastically. Having its positives and negatives, being a female has made me cautious of men, self-conscious, and determined.…

We were all incredibly bored and we were just sitting around not knowing what to do. Finally, being the five year olds we are, my friends and I decided to play “extreme” hide and seek together. We all went outside to establish the rules. The rules were not very descriptive, but basically we decided that we were going to play a different version of hide and seek, where everyone ran and then formed alliances or stayed on their own. Then, we had to try to find each other and “kill” the other with a long stick.…
