Everyone in America comes from a different background, but only a fraction are the children of immigrants, and an even smaller fraction are the first generation to apply to college. I grew up in quite a different household. My whole family is 100% Lebanese so that means I grew up with a 100% un-American background. My parents left Lebanon a couple years before their first child was born and moved to the United States. They knew that they wanted their future three children to live out of fear and away from all the chaos that was happening in the Middle East at the time.
