The Leadership Challenge discusses “strengthen (ing) resilience” (pp 206). I am the kind of person who wants all of my ducks in a row so when one or two are out of line, I get flustered not to mention overwhelmed to the point wanting to quit. The past few years have been one of loss in various ways; my father’s passing, my beloved pet for nine years passing, my husband’s illness, the loss of our house as well as the loss of my husband’s and partner’s business. Even though we are still reeling with the impact of what we have been hit with, we continue to encourage one another emotionally to look ahead, not dwell on the past.…

FFA is such an amazing organization and we feel that one of the things that makes it so great, is the diversity shown among members. While Artemy is certainly a unique individual, he is also similar to others in this organization in a sense that he is a devoted member, yet he invests himself in many activities outside of FFA. Whether you’re an aspiring farmer, biologist, writer, or veterinarian, FFA offers events that will allow you to not only showcase your skills, but improve them. By conducting this campaign, it would help the community view FFA as a diverse organization full of different individuals, all of whom offer the world different talents and…

I shall always remember my first year working at Turkey Hill Ranch. I have always possessed an enduring fondness of the lovely church camp over all the years I’ve spent there as a camper, but I never imagined that its unique nature and pleasant atmosphere would impart such invaluable wisdom. This quiet and seemingly insignificant breadth of woods and field, tucked away amongst the encompassing depths of central Missouri, gave me an abundance of clarity on the exceeding importance of humility, service to others, and a bit of hard work in the composition of effective stewardship. Before becoming a part of the Summer staff at Turkey Hill, I was often impressed at the smooth and continuous operation of the camp week after week, being that it was…

There’s something amazing about doing what you love and being around other people who share this passion for the activity you’re both involved in; however, this feeling is heightened by being able to teach the basics of the activity and watching others fall in love the way you did. As I enter my senior year this will be my fourth season as a color guard member and my third season as an assistance coach to the Great Bridge Middle School (GBMS) Color Guard. A few weeks before tryouts for marching band my sophomore year, my coaches, Chris and Donny asked for a few volunteers to travel to the three middle schools that filter into Grassfield (Hickory, GBMS and Hugo), and teach the rising ninth graders a few basics, the flag work and dance they needed for tryouts. I decided to help out due to my dedication for color…

Walking in the thick woods of Camp Cornhusker, the sun is seeping through the treetops while walking into what seems like a thousand thorny bushes. When everyone stops for a water break, someone counts to make sure that everyone is all there. “Seven people.” announced Ian, a tall slender guy who always has a bandana wrapped his neck for some odd reason. In a very concerned voice the leader of the group, Zach Cole who works as the aquatics director, quizzically recited the number seven to himself, “didn’t we just have eight?”…

One of the largest organizations in America are the Boy Scouts of America, which recently changed its name to ‘Scouts BSA’ to foster inclusivity. This group helps to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development and self-reliance by doing outdoor activities, programs and volunteer services. Caleb Robeau, a senior at BMR, joined so that he could learn, from a young age, skills like learning how to tie knots and administer first aid. The ability to cultivate survival prowess is the reason that many boys join the Scouts. While there are many aspects of the organization Robeau’s favorite part of scouting “was going to summer camp because there are a lot of activities like row boating, shotgun shooting, working on more merit badges,…

Over the course of the semester in Soar 1 I feel that I have participated in multiple extracurricular activities as well as a field trip. I would like to begin by talking about the field trip that myself and the rest of the Soar 1 students went on at the beginning of the year. During this field trip we went to a rope course near Golden, Colorado. As opposed to other field trips I have been on I must say that this one was the most “hands on”. In order to complete what we needed to do we needed to demonstrate good teamwork and ability to cooperate with others.…
