I’ve been a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. I’ve been to their games, watched them on television, talked about it with friends, and once, even paid attention to individuals statistics. However, it’s the same thing every year with them. They lose, and we say next year. They lose constantly, and we say next year. Except, this year was different.

The parade, the pure joy, the relinquished burden, the dreadful loss for the other team, and most importantly, bragging rights. Take that socks fans! I would repeatedly think to myself. Although, there was fear. What if the Cubs don’t win? What if they never win? I’ve tried many times to wipe away that thought multiple times. Soon,

Chicago Cubs against the Cleveland Indians. Fast Forward to the make it break it moment. It’s the top of the ninth inning. It’s tied 6 to 6, Cubs up to bat. Our catcher Ross hits a single, with our coach pulling him out to replace him with fresh legs. Hayward is up to bat, with full count. He hits a single but the other young player is thrown out of the game. Another hit by a player and sprints to first, with Hayward reaching second. He would haveof been out, but the overthrow allowed him to land a scoring position. Everyone else is thrown out and first and the Cubs score no runs. I was devastated. Indians have been hot the last 2 innings. I watch in horror as it’s the Indians turn. Luckily, they don’t score either, and we go into the tenth. However, right when we all run to our dugouts, the tarps come out because of the worsening rain. I scream in anger. Now, I have time to become a nervous wreck and pray that we

Despite being an incredibly profitable $10 billion dollar enterprise, MLB baseball certainly has its share of issues. And no one associated with the game on that level will tell you any different. There is one dispute, however, that it doesn’t have as its annual spring training comes to a close – at the core of the game – it’s all about hope. Like spring itself; the advent of the baseball season, akin to the Lenten season it always coincides with, symbolizes a much needed renewal. Baseball has this indistinguishable way of juxtaposing longtime memories and impending possibility, while complementing them with the abstract present.…

Pop Up I've played baseball as long as I can remember, but somehow, as a junior in highschool, my swing was still consistently inconsistent. You'd think that the many years of swinging a bat over and over and all the hundreds of baseball movies would have rubbed off on me, but you would be wrong. Well not completely wrong, I did learn a few pointers on how to get my timing down, and I could run decently fast, but I wasn't going to be drafted into the MLB or even scouted for a college team. Last summer, my VFW summer team wasn't anything special; we had a few solid players, but also some players, like me, were struggling to make solid contact with the baseball.…

For the last few years of my life, I have been on my school’s PSAL Baseball team playing third base. And, while playing baseball generally requires an abundance of skill in applying critical thinking, one incident during my time with the team stands out to me. It was a sunny spring day in Brooklyn with a gentle breeze picking up the dirt of the field and carrying it off towards the New York high rises around the fields. At the time, our team was undefeated and, since none of the games were close, the thought of losing had never even entered our mind the entire season. That was, until we were the home team during the top of the ninth inning with a one run lead with one out.…

Who would think that your actions during a baseball game can cause you to lose the game for your team. This day i will never forget for rest of my life. On May 17, 2017 it was the bottom of the ninth, we were down by one, two outs with runners on first and third after a base hit single, coach called time to change to the relief pitcher. There i was on deck waiting to bat but first i needed to examine his warm ups by examining his movement, what type of pitches he can throw, and when he's going to use these pitches. “Ok are you ready pitch”?…
