Her reaction was not what I was anticipating. She freaked out and punished me. I had most of my electronic devices taken away from me and was told that I was not normal. As a result, I became depressed, unsociable, and my anxiety skyrocketed to an all-time high. I compensated my true yearning to come out through being a straight A student, until the pressure was too much for me, therefore my grades dropped. Personal Narrative: My Coming Out Story I came out of the closet twice actually. The first time was in the eighth grade when I came out as a lesbian to the whole community (If they cared to ask anyway). The second time I chose to come out of the closet was at the end of my sophomore year of high school, only this time I was coming out as transgender. Choosing to come out the closet for a second time wasn’t any easier than the first time, if anything it was even harder. My second coming out is the one I’d like to focus on though, when I chose to allow myself to be my true self no matter the cost.…

The air is filled with typical school cafeteria ambiance, the sounds of screaming kids, people chewing with open mouths and folding cards. Fifteen minutes into the freshman-sophomore lunch period and I’m ranting off the ears of every person nearby. This is a handful of people, considering the table is so packed I barely have any arm space. The topic at hand is rather controversial, causing most of the kids to sit idle.…

The Otherness in Me Fights, brawls, a disagreement, you name it, I have probably done it. Not because I liked it, but people saw me and they thought they had to prove themselves. I find myself to be a pacifist but my body and face disagree with me. My eyes, with a empty gaze like knife’s, can be intimidating sometimes and my body now is bigger than others, which bring larger problems. I’m in a good neighborhood, surrounded by bad neighborhoods.…

During middle school, about 7th and 8th grade, is when I began noticing my attraction towards girls. At first I assumed this was just me recognizing the fact that other girls are pretty, but I soon realized it was more than this. I was terrified and confused; middle school was already a tough time for most kids. Everybody was going through puberty and beginning the early stages of figuring out who they are and who they want to be. And I, being an awkward looking and incredibly insecure twelve year old girl, was very alarmed at what this meant.…

When I entered high school, I hoped to make a name for myself as the girl who did not tolerate prejudice. Since I grew up with lesbian moms, I was born into an opportunity to educate those around me about the repercussions of intolerant language and actions, and I had decided that I was not going to waste the chance to make a difference. My school accepts students from all around the county who come from different backgrounds, so my work was cut out for me. I made friends with kids who all held a variety of beliefs, and always took the opportunity to let them know if something they said was hurtful. I never tried to speak my mind in an assaulting way, but merely informed them that, sometimes, certain vocabulary should be off limits, especially slurs.…
