The Boys and Girls Club, has brought so many opportunities into my life that have shaped me into the strong, hard working, role model I am today. At my club, I enjoy the luxury of the teen side with my friends, and participate in many leadership programs, such as Torch Club and now Keystone. I set an example for those looking up to me, and have even gotten the chance to mentor younger kids/help out my community by donating to numerous homeless shelters, and going to the accompany the seniors at senior homes. Adjusting to the never ending amount of homework given, or finding the right people to hang out with, are some of the many stresses and struggles, middle school can give you. The club has released a large amount of that stress, and Ms. Jessica has definitely helped me with so many things, my homework being one of them. I remember spending almost all of my time in the power hour room, but giving a new definition to the hour part of it. I would usually stay in there until I had to go home, or she eventually had to kick me

Seated on the plane to Beijing, I was thinking all the way on what I did through the past year. My mind went back to the time when my friends and I worked together for Chinese orphans by creating a club. With 100 dollars from donation, I asked several classmates to help me set up a club called ‘Bring Me Hope Club’ to cooperate with a global NGO: Bring Me Hope, to raise money for Chinese orphans and build long-term personal one-to-one relationships with them.…

The earliest I can remember learning that my gender was different and treated differently from someone else’s was probably when I was five or six years old. I always had to wear a dress or an outfit that was always pink. I had to play with dolls and only do things that little girls would normally do and I of course noticed that boys didn’t have to do anything similar to me so I realized that I was being treated differently simply because I was a girl.…

The demand for police officers, as reported by the U.S. Labor Statistics, is expected to increase by seven percent. This increase is due to the demand of having police officers risk their lives in the front lines against the battle of crime. Police are needed to maintain peace, prevent and investigate crime, reach out to the community, and protect the people they represent. A law enforcement officer must be able to accomplish all of this goals and still contribute to society. To experience the same contribution law enforcement officers provide to the El Paso community on a daily basis, I had decide to volunteer my time in the Boys and Girls Club of El Paso.…

As a member of a club called "The Best Buddies Club", our role as a member of the club was to be assigned a buddy whom suffered physical disabilities for a large majority of their life. Throughout my experience I had met many kids around my age with certain disabilities, and with that I learned about the lives lived by each and everyone of them. A few told me sorrowful stories of a time they were bullied either physically or verbally. It brought great disappointment to humanity as a whole, those kids were one of the sweetest I've ever met. This led our group and I to spread awareness with a motto of "spread the word to end the word", directed at abolishing the use of the word "retard" or as we called it "the r-word".…

“Conner, wait for me!” I yelled to my older brother as he scurried up a mangrove tree in our backyard. The two of us spent everyday roaming around the island of Oahu that we were so blessed to call our home for most of our lives. I followed my older brother around like a lost puppy dog, mimicking what he did, admiring his courage, and trying to gain his acceptance.
