Personal Narrative: The Boy Who Cried Wolf

Improved Essays
The moral of the Boy who Cried Wolf, although true, can sometimes be twisted around. When I was thirteen, I attended a girl’s camp, perfect for the average girl because it banned the phones, makeup, and fashion, the three things teenage girls dreaded the most. So, with nothing better to do during the long days in camp, we were forced to do the one thing usually reserved for boys- pranking the leaders. I guess a break from phones really did do us well because we were cynical and ingenius in all our prank designs- shaving cream on the toilet, pretend tarantulas inside bagels, a nice wet seat for them wherever they sat, but most importantly, spiders. If there’s anything camp leaders hate besides crying girls, it’s spiders. And the fake, cheap, plastic, eight-legged shapes, sold in just about every store, did just the trick. We planted them everywhere: their beds, door …show more content…
As the spiders thrived as well as a teacher’s salary in a parallel universe, the leaders’ trust in us did quite the opposite. The sun had just set on either the second or third day, and everyone was retreating back to their cabins for a long, periodic time where the mosquitos itch mournfully and the sound of everyone rustling in their beds is the only sound to ever play. Besides the leaders, our entire group was cosied in our room when one of us fought quite the find- a black widow that lounged in the bottom corner of the room, right next to our leaders’ beds. So, we did the stereotypical thing for a girl to do when she sees a spider- we grabbed our shoes and began to smack it. But, it soon proved to be hopeless as the spider quickly ran from our persistent shoes and soon had vanished. Our leaders soon returned, but when we told them what happened, the leaders told us to not even bother, as they

In The Humanistic Tradition the author Gloria Fiero asserts that the African and Native American folk traditions share many similarities. One of the most comparable traditions between the African and Native American cultures would be the similarity they share in the art of mask creation. Fiero states, “Dance masks and clan helmets- which, like African masks, draw on the natural elements of wood, human hair and teeth, animal fur, and feathers (Fiero, Pg. 456).” This comparison by Fiero allows the resemblance of the two cultures masks making process to be identified as one that is very similar to one another as they seem to use almost identical elements for their mask decorations. Furthermore another distinctive tradition that the two cultures…

The pain began slowly, pricking me with its sharp needles only while doing barre in ballet once a week. I ignored it, believing it to be normal, common discomfort that would soon go away, typical thoughts of a dancer whose entire sport is centered around “good pain”. Six months later, it had escalated to the degree that every step I took felt like an arrow to my knee. Dancing had become impossible, and it was determined that I should be taken to the orthopedist. The bland, brown and beige lobby became extraordinarily familiar as I waited two hours to be examined.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

The audience for my reimaging tale is people who understand business and politics. This story is indirectly for everyone but the major understanding comes from economic aspects and a dictatorial rule. The way I choose this audience is the same way I choose my theme because the theme of a story changes the "audience”. Also I wanted to make a story for an audience that perceives a short folktale as a larger and more detailed story since the original "The boy who cried wolf" was a moral lesson for children but how about I do reimagining this story but for adults who are sometimes as vulnerable as kids when it comes to money, power and wealth.…

It was a Saturday morning March 17, 1996 I was eight months in my mother’s tummy and my due date was in mid April. My mother told me of a hill she sled down from, a great slope that didn’t leave her feeling to good “No me siento muy bien.” My uncle rushed her to Granada Hills Hospital on the morning of March 19, 1996; I was born seven pounds at eight minutes until eight.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

Since childhood, spiders to me have remained the blood curdling, bone-chilling creature, with the ability to paralyze almost everyone – from adult men to teenage girls – with fear. As a teenage girl, I seem to be the stereotypical, terrified victim of the spider. Flashback to my earlier teenage years, and I was not moving that spider. There was no way – it was not a job for me. I was determined to avoid contact and proximity at all costs, even if this meant evacuating the room.…
