Personal Narrative: The Border Patrol

Decent Essays
I agree the Border Patrol is placed properly within the Department of Homeland Security. When I lived and worked in Southern California, there were many times that the Border Patrol would take suspected people into custody and detain them. From my own personal knowledge of living out west, the Border Security between Arizona and Mexico has been heightened in recent years due to the Coyotes’ smuggling of illegal immigrants and Drugs. There have been several underground tunnels located and many people apprehended. The work the Border Patrol does is an incredible asset for our nation.

In America most people are composed of diverse nationalities. Each person has a story behind their eyes, such as how they got to the United States and where they came from. If someone were to guess my specific nationality based off my generic name and pale skin color, most likely the guess would be Irish or Norwegian. In reality, my nationality is from all over, my closest and most recent ancestor from Italy. America is a country entirely based off immigrants, which means everyone has a different origin and backstory.…

In early June 2010, a Border Patrol for the United States by the name of. Jesus Mesa Jr, while standing on US soil, fatally shot a 15 year old minor that was on Mexican soil. The Hernandez v. Mesa case was argued during October in 2016 at the Supreme Court on the argument if Mexican Nations had a right to legally charge a United States officer under the pretenses of the Rights contained in the U.S. Constitution. The 15 year old’s name was Sergio Hernandez, and he was hanging around with his friends near a culvert on the border that separated the United States and Mexico. “As they were playing, United States Border Patrol Agent Jesus Mesa, Jr. arrived on the scene and detained one of Hernandez's friends, causing Hernandez to retreat … in Mexico…

No agency is flawless. Border patrols issues are migrant deaths, attacks on border patrol agents, civilian patrol groups. First, the migrant deaths are a questionable due to the fact that numerous federal, state and local jurisdictions have different numbers of deaths therefore the data is challenging. A key problem is the information from the Mexican side isn’t present therefore it is undermines the numbers of some sort. It’s reported that more deaths have been occurring more often due to the lack of resources the illegal immigrants are coming with, weather (southwest is extremely harsh, especially during summer months).…

My body continued to be attacked, as I was unable to escape the mass of mosquitoes hovering around me. There was nothing that I could do except helplessly swat at my arms to avoid being bitten repeatedly. As I followed my trail guide aimlessly into the desert I began to feel my arms ache from the jugs of water I was carrying. Eventually reaching our destination I left the gallon jugs for migrants in the future seeking for help. On this hike I personally experienced the treacherous journey through the desert that migrants take in hope for a better future.…

The immigrant story is not necessarily a new narrative, and I have had the privilege of having it easier than some of my peers. However, it is the experience that has revoke the most change within me, both as a person and as an artist. Specifically, fitting into the new life was not difficult. I have managed to relatively seamlessly transition into this new environment. Notwithstanding, there is always an underlying seam of xenophobia within the society, holding me to a higher standard.…

Historically, immigrants have been highly concentrated in just a few places, settling in ethnic neighborhoods of metropolitan areas such as New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and various cities in Texas including Houston and Austin. Building on this history, the contemporary story entails the arrival of immigrants to established immigrant gateways with well-defined service infrastructures and a receptivity that aids the integration process. Within the past few decades however, immigrants have also begun to settle in nontraditional areas such as the Southeast, including new gateway cities like Atlanta and Nashville, creating a different context for integration and eliciting a mixed response from local communities. According…

My community is well known for being multicultural since we consider El Paso, Tx and CIudad Juarez, Mexico, to be a big united city. As Americans, here in El Paso, we are all proud to be able to speak perfect English and Spanish as well as to be part of both cultures. Many people from El Paso,TX and from Juarez cross each day to the opposite city where they work, go to school, or visit family. That is why we consider both cities, to be a big city that is just divided by an international border. An international border is the only barrier preventing us from doing and seeing the people we love.…

On the first day of Kindergarten, I remember how my mother held my hand. I remember how, before she kissed me goodbye, she whispered into my ear, “tienes que ser la mejor,” you have to be the best. I was born into a family of hardworking immigrants in a city only an hour away from the Mexican-American border. My parents, worried about the quality of education in the low-income neighborhood that we lived in, had toured schools until they found one that satisfied their expectations.…
