Personal Narrative: The Book Thief

In English class, we had read so many different books from all over the world; each style unique to the authors. I feel like when we read books in English, it was the time that I felt most comfortable because of the way I could get so involved in the story. For example in “The Book Thief”, (My favourite book we read in English too!) It was so beautifully told that you can’t help getting so involved in the story, especially emotionally. When a character dies, I feel so dismal because you had grown to love them and feel for them as if it is you who is in the story. An example of this would be in “A Thousand Splendid Suns” when Mariam died. When I had read that I was so outraged and upset, I cried when I read her last thoughts about loving and …show more content…
I felt that in my first two years of English I had never really had a solid English teacher. In grade nine, I started with Mrs. Plat, who was a tough marker but a good-natured person. The next year I had Mrs.Lewis and she was a pretty likable person due to her humor, yet you could really tell that she didn’t want to be an English teacher and that her really love was in phys-ed. Then, for the next two years I had Mrs. JB, and it was like I had found an English teacher I felt a could talk to along with feeling her passion for teaching overall. (And i’m not just saying that because she’s marking this) She definitely has a way of making English fun and actually making me want to go to class; especially when doing Shakespeare, a unit not many like (Including me), but she always finds a way to make it not only amusing but also filled with memories. From scavenger hunts to Shakespeare insult battles she knows how to bring books to life, even if half the time I couldn’t understand what they were saying. She is kind, patient and one of the few teacher you can speak with personally. She is one of the best teaches I've had in my entire high school experience and I will miss her so

The movie, The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak is an amazing film, because he explains how Hitler and the holocaust had an impact on this family, the Hubberman’s, who at the time were hiding Max Vandenburg, a Jew. Friendship and the power of words are very repetitive during the film. In addition, Liesel doesn’t apprehend how powerful words are because she doesn’t know how to read. Later on, Markus Zusak shows us how Liesel uses the power of words to understand her emotions.…

As a result, she struggles during the war through all her hardships but the one thing that always keeps her hopeful are books. “Here is a small fact - You are going to die” (Zusak 3). So, with these ten small words, begins the reader’s tumultuous relationship with Death, the narrator of Markus Zusak’s novel, “The Book Thief”. In a world where hundreds of pieces of literature have been published in an effort to preserve the memory of Hitler’s Nazi regime and their cruel acts against humanity, “The Book Thief”, with its striking narration, becomes a unique testament to the Holocaust. Death escorts the reader into the hellish realm of Germany during the escalation World War II as he tries to decipher the “beauty and brutality” (Zusak 550) of which human beings are simultaneously capable. Nevertheless, this is not a story about Death; it is about life and so much else.…
