I got my battery powered Cinderella car for my birthday, and I was scared of it at first. I’d scream and hide behind my Mom’s legs. One day I decided to give it a try outside. You had to push this lever on the side of the steering wheel to set the speed. I started slow, but then went to medium. I remember thinking that my Dad was a wizard because when he took this thing off over it, there was the option of going faster. I’d ride it with my sister, who was just a toddler, until it was time to go to bed. I now walk into the hallway, I have memories of running down this hallway, thinking that is was a hallway that never ended. I turned to the right and It was my bedroom. A bunk bed was next to the wall, and a TV was on the opposite side. I remember getting a kite and wrapping it all around the bunk bed, tangling it. I remember opening the presents the day before Christmas and shoving everything under the bed. I remember staying up all night watching High School Musical and then my sister coming in with a bagel

We did not think anything of it since it was not the first horse we had encountered this summer. When my dad pulled up in the old one-ton red Ford pickup pulling a 16foot red and black horse trailer, Jared and I jumped in the pickup. After about an hour of driving, we arrived at the man’s house that owned the horse. Once we introduced ourselves we followed the man through the muddy trail to his horse pens.…

Assuming the numbers are right (and I sincerely hope they're not), in a randomly selected crowd of ten thousand Americans, I am the only one who can read. It's mind boggling; my nine year old self had to sit down when she first learned it, mere hours after meeting the eyes of the astonished boy who was told that the note he was looking for was a B-flat. I have words running through my mind constantly, small phrases or whole pages on a loop, complete with percussion, until another strain catches my fancy. The pages of my conscious mind are never blank, and my pretentious self wonders how 99.99% of people get by in their permanent illiteracy.…
