The Bireley Foundation originally started helping out the Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. That is the core of how our grandparents wanted it to remain except in our hometowns. We have always helped out women and children in need through our charity gifting. Through many years our foundation has supported ACT.
In the past year we were able to see one of their three shelters, we had an appointment and were greeted by security cameras. She always said "I don't want you to spread my stuff on the front yard and have a garage sale" I was at a loss as the family has already picked through some keep items. I put up a post on my social network page asking what should I do with all mom's stuff. 8 out of 10 said ACT. I always knew about the organization but, didn't know they had a thrift store. We packed boxes of purses, shoes and other clothing. It didn't stop there, when it was time to put mom's house on the market we needed to de-clutter and take some furniture out. She had so much stuff. We ended up using a cargo trailer and making several trips. ACT offered a pickup with their people and trucks, I declined as I wanted to do things myself. Giving many of my parents things away is something that was hard to do, so I did it slowly deciding what I want to keep because I can't take it all. Aimee and I are realtors and we are constantly seeing more and more homes sold furnished. Sometimes people ask what to do with this furniture and I reply I know just the place to donate to. We still see some clients from time to time and they sometimes give us a bag of clothes to donate. The decision was easier than I thought to just give it away knowing I am helping my community was a
