Personal Narrative: The Best Basketball Team

Improved Essays
So here I was with our basketball team; It was the second round of the playoffs and our team had a tough matchup against Antioch, they are just as good if not better than us. And the game had just started; myself, “the captain”, Josh, Murry, Blake, Andrew, “the starters” “we were going to win this game” is what we all said throughout the whole day before the game. And our team, Hermitage, we were not the best basketball team in the league by any means. In fact, we had the second worst record (Win to loss record) that season we only made it into the playoffs because our league needed the top eight teams in the league and we were the ninth but one team did not have enough players to play in the game. So we got in and we draw names out of a hat to decide who we play and we got the number seven team a.k.a. Antioch; so back to the game it was five minutes before tip-off and we were ready. And me being the captain I was leading the team with some warm-ups before the game …show more content…
Fast forward in the game to about five minutes into the game (we only have eight minute quarters)and the score was twelve to seventeen and we were winning. But, coach took out our starting line up (we were the only good players on the team and we were not even that good either) so we sit on the bench till about the end of the second quarter and the score was twenty-two to thirty-three. And we thought, oh, no we are not gonna win if we keep this up. And the coach only puts Josh and Blake in, but hey, I guess it was enough because the next thing you know we were tied up at halftime thirty-five to thirty-five and then we go back out on the court; we (the starting lineup) are back in the

the Announcer yelled through the monumental microphones. The crowd roaring with anger at the helpless mustang defense, who were walking to the bench with their heads down. If only we had a better defense, thinking in my head as I observed the scoreboard change from 28-24 to 35-24. 5 minutes left before we go home with or without a trophy. “Return team, get out there” the coach ordered,as if he was hoping for a miracle.…

Our leadoff hitter had a leadoff double, but was then picked off right away. The next two batters weren’t a threat either. The Oklahoma Elite managed to sneak across a run in the bottom of the second. We didn’t want them to catch back up so we decided to kick it in gear. The rest of the game we remained in the driver’s seat.…

After the buzzer sounds the end of the first quarter I look up to the scoreboard as I make my way back to our bench. The score is 9 us and 13 Creede. I sit down on the bench and Brown begins to talk to us, “We need to rebound better! Other than that you’re playing good.” After Brown’s speech we make our way back to the floor.…

We came crashing down two games later when we lost our first game in the season. Coach Leake let us have it at practice when we had to do conditioning with the distance runners on the track team. We did it as a team with no complaints because it is the way that teams work even though the players that were strutting around did not play as often as others. After we finished the running coach called the end of practice and gave us a ultimatum. "…

Like all children all I ever wanted was to be big and do big people things. I engaged in a few family members that I would look up to and try everything they did. I use to pretend to go grocery shopping and being a parent at times. At the age of eight, I had worn the worst pain ever and that was watching my five, year old brother getting hit by a car while trying to cross the street riding a bicycle that had a loose chain. I remember him trying to get up and get to me, but a few adults that had witnessed the accident had told him to lay down.…

On a breezy chicago early May Day in my junior year baseball season I was faced with a challenge that changed the whole way that I take on life. So I didn't put in any effort because I thought that I didn't need to. Well my life got flipped upside down on this breezy Chicago day.…

That was embarrassing I love the game of basketball, even when I score in the other team’s basket. In my defense, I was only six years old and it was my first time being on a basketball team. Me and my older brother Houston were on the same team, and at the time we were losing by seven or eight points and there was hardly any time left in the game, maybe a second or two. I was always the smallest kid on the court…

I was feeling very nervous and worried when I was sitting on the long brown rectangular table. Four competitions were sitting by me waiting to know if they were going to be the next LeBron 19. Whoever was chosen had the honor of LeBron to wear them in the NBA Finals. The Nike designers opened the door and I felt a wave of cold air come room. Our basketball team hadn’t won a championship game since 1992. It was my senior year and my last shot at redemption against the defending champs. The whole season we only lost one game, we were projected to lose, and we were the underdogs. We had one week left to prepare for what was the largest game of my high school career. Monday’s practice was the worst of the week, we only ran and shot free throws.…

I have played football since I was six years old. Football is associated with violence for some, but I look at it as a lesson. Some of the most valuable life lessons that I know and use came from football: from taking pride in what you do to always having room for improvement no matter how good you are. The biggest life lesson that has always stuck with me is overcoming adversity. Out of all my years of playing football, we have never gone undefeated, and I have always faced the adversity of being down in games.…

So we prayed and the game started and we played nervously. My captain, Melissa dribbled down the court, looked to pass, and took the shot but missed it. Michelle also missed her fast-break lay up, and I missed my free throw. At the end of Quarter 2, it was like playing football because the scoreboard only shows 2 for Ipeka Tomang (my school) and 3 for Yadika. That indicates how much we are struggling the whole quarter never really score but a constant battle between getting and loosing the ball.…
