Personal Narrative: The Beach

Improved Essays
Taking a deep breath of the salty breeze made me realize how sleepy I am, and how this beach has an aroma of a powerful sleeping drugs. The sounds of crashing waves are slowly diminishing, and I feel weak to the bones. As the light starts fading I realize that my eyes felt heavy and ponderous.
When I woke up realizing that the moon took over dominance of the sky, night has befall. I checked my phone and gasped in shock. My fingers dance swiftly on the keyboard of my phone as I am texting back my mom in panic. I walked into my hotel packing swiftly and waited fearfully for my mother’s angry respond. I thought back to a few days before my trip, how my mother and I agree that I would provide her daily updates of where I am to ease her mind.

In the first few weeks of my father’s senior year in high school he was called into the principal’s office and he was told, “Mr. Bragdon, if you don’t start showing up for school I am going to expel you.” See at the time, dad’s single mother of four was struggling to pay the bills, which meant he needed to do whatever he could to supply the family with an additional income. So he went lobstering. In response to the principal, the very next day dad walked into his office and set down on his desk a stack of books and his check from that week. He then looked at the principal and said “Sir, I believe I just made more in one week than you will in the next two months.…

The wind caressed my cheek in a soft embrace as it blew cold wispy kisses on my skin, the dark had taken over about an hour past, and the sky was filled with dazzling stars and a moon so ominous it sent chills down my spine. The ships had set sail this morning, leaving my home behind in hopes of a brighter life, a better future. As I had taken my first step onto the old ship, the floorboards creaked and groaned reminding me of the home I left. I looked out, marvelling in the darkness that surrounded me. The dancing stars were the only light I had, but back at home I had no other source of light either.…

From my experience of working at The Beachouse I have had to deal with a diverse range of people and confrontation. Some being quite negative and I think that its in these moments that I am able to handle myself well and make good decisions. Sitting on my bed, with the sunlight streaming through the window, the shadows and sunlight dancing across my bed were creating optical illusions. I watched them, not knowing what else to do. The day was relaxing; and with not much to accomplish, I began contemplating life and the memories it held. The warm sun and balmy breeze reminded me of another summer when my life had drastically changed, my mind swiftly flew back to that time. I was walking along the dirt road with my best friend.…

7:00 am- I open my eyes and a thin beam of early-morning light shines into by enormous bedroom. A breeze blows the drapes on my bay window revealing the sun still low in the sky, which cast feeble shadows about the room, decorated with exotic souvenirs and artifacts from my adventures all over the world. I step out the door to a deck with a huge, sparkling pool and a trail leading back towards the rocky cliff overlooking the ocean. I follow the trail out to the cliff and study the tropical, green-blue water so far below for a moment.…

Each year, a pilgrimage to the Florida or Alabama gulf coast is a highly anticipated and enjoyed event for my family. In the beginning, it was just my wife and I. Man oh man, these trips were some of the most relaxing times that I can remember. Now, our yearly “beach fest” includes our two children, Kaylee and Garrett. While this is still a wonderful family event, I no longer use the phrase “relaxing”. Elbert Hubbard once said, “No man needs a vacation so much as the man who just had one”.…

I've been thinking about the beach, waters and the sands for weeks now realizing I haven't even shared our Canyon Cove getaway yet. It is something that is worth sharing for and I can't believe I almost forget to blog about it. So without further adieu, here is the story of our first long drive (just the three of us) and beach escapade. The best part is, it was well an unplanned trip. January was supposed to be a month for our barkada (college friends) outing.…
