Personal Narrative: The Baseball Field

Improved Essays
The baseball field is where I spend most of my weekends and evenings with my family “cheering” on my brother. In reality, when I get there, I have parents waiting for me to watch over the younger siblings of the baseball players playing that day.

One of my favorite memories from the field was when I handed the kid I was watching a package of gummy worms, and he looked up at me with his smile hidden under his chubby cheeks. When I was younger, I would always look up to teenagers because I felt that they had some sort of coolness since they were the “big kid.” I would get upset if these teenagers didn’t want to hang out with someone as young as me at that time. With the baseball siblings, I thought since it was my turn to be the “big kid.”

I started playing baseball when I was 7 years old and at that time I was actually playing T-Ball. For awhile I played baseball for a place called Twin City. While I was at Twin City I had mostly played the second base position. Twin City was an alright organization because they didn't have players with the best attitudes. Those players with not so good attitudes affected our teams ability to win.…

I’ve been a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. I’ve been to their games, watched them on television, talked about it with friends, and once, even paid attention to individuals statistics. However, it’s the same thing every year with them. They lose, and we say next year. They lose constantly, and we say next year.…

It was springtime during the year of 2012, I was just about to start my summer. I was looking on the internet for sports to do in Kaneland, because I wanted to compete at a higher level. But I was not always comfortable with playing on a travel baseball team, but I knew this could be a great opportunity for me, so I took a risk and after all it, payed off. I asked “Dad would you think I would be able to compete and play on the travel baseball team” He smiled “Yes, but one thing I learned when I was young and playing baseball is; it is a game of mistakes, and the only way you can succeed is if you practice over and over to improve.”…

Baseball: the sport where you stand around for 20 minutes and move 3 feet to the left and move 3 feet to the right. It’s so intense. It’s so intense that you could take a nap on the field with everything out there. Of course, I’m being sarcastic. The only time it’s actually fun is when you’re annihilating the other team while they’re asleep on the field.…

The game of baseball has always been in my life since I was a child. My love for the game began when I was five years of age signing up for tee ball at the local little league. As a child, I would imagine myself as a professional ballplayer. I would mimic my idols every chance I had or I would dream of myself being in a critical situation to win the game and to make history. Now, I am chasing my dream by trying to become one of those greats who played the game.…

I played sophomore baseball for Senior over the summer. It was the best season I've ever had as a Dubuque Senior High School baseball player. At the end of the season we had a potluck with the varsity team and the sophomore team.…

One situation where I found myself in a fixed mindset was when I was a freshman at Mountain Pointe high school trying to make the baseball team. At the time, I had a half-hearted passion for baseball that made me want to be on the school baseball team, but I felt that everything would come natural to me because I was Dominican. I was quite proud of how Dominicans were typically great at baseball quite naturally it seemed. However, with this knowledge I became highly critical about everything I did when playing baseball at the high school camps before the baseball tryouts. I did not focus on overall improvement as I tried to ensure that every throw, batting, and pitch was perfect.…
