Personal Narrative: The Bartle Scout Experience

Improved Essays
I was all packed and ready to set off on my 10 day adventure to H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation but all that's in my way is about 12 hours and 9 of them I’m going restless because I’m so excited and I keep my dad up by asking him questions but when I have an important one he’s gone “MOM wheres Dad.” I said “he’s seeing his mom,” with a couple of tears running down her face “ It will probably going to be the last time he sees her” and I remember that she is in the hospital. It has been about 5 ½ months since she has been diagnosed with glioblastoma. That give me another thing to keep me up.
The next morning I wake up so excited. I get dressed and I wake up my dad and he gets ready, then we head off to the church to meet up with the other scouts

You would think people who have next to nothing in their lives, would want everything they could have their hands on. After spending a week with people who had less then me, I understood that I was completely wrong. I learned that people who have nothing are the most caring and empathetic. The people who lived at the camp we were staying at, greeted us with open arms and warm hearts. As a mission team, we were obviously caring people.…

I consider Camp Kanata a second home, I worked my first full summer as a camp counselor after junior year. That summer was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life; I learned, laughed, and cried everyday, I also created amazing friendships. Yet when asked about what made my summer so spectacular a few months later, I had little to say, my mind was blank. I cannot remember what happened a week ago, let alone what happened months and years ago. The number of special memories and moments I have forgotten about is unquantifiable.…

Friona has many unique events that distinguish us from the many other bijou towns all around it. There’s the cheeseburger festival, which, being the “cheeseburger capital of the Texas”, is a must. They have Maize Days to celebrate their community’s people and businesses. And then there’s Friona High School’s own Chieftain Challenge that, like its name states, challenges its students. The Chieftain Challenge began with a couple of students trying to come up with a good idea for their Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) project.…

Though I love everything that I do, My favorite thing I do is work up at an all boys camp in Rhinelander, Wisconsin called Camp Deerhorn. Every year that I travel up to camp, I look forward to meeting new people and forming some new friendships. In my room I have a plaque that reads “Camp Deerhorn Creed.” It was written by the founder of Camp Deerhorn, Dr. Don C. Broadbridge in 1930, and it lists out 13 of the most essential and important ways on how to act in order to become a gentleman. My two personal favorites are “Too spread sunshine and good cheer, just for the fun of it.”…

I just got done with my shift to protect Camp Half-Blood feeling very tired and stressed. With the camp’s protection being down and most of the campers going back to their families for the summer, this meant that there were very few of us to guard our safe haven. Not to mention I was still recovering from my broken ankle. I decided to take a walk down to the beach near the camp. Lately, I’ve found the sound of crashing waves, wind brushing through my hair, and the slight smell of salt hitting my face very soothing ever since I had met my best friend, Percy Jackson.…

One of my most meaningful service experiences was my Eagle Scout project. One of the requirements for obtaining the rank of Eagle is that the Scout must complete a service project that benefits the community; my project was to fundraise, organize, and oversee construction of a new pavilion at the Fowler Center for Outdoor Learning, a special needs camp, near Mayville, MI. The Fowler Center is a non-profit organization and a year round camp for kids with special needs. One of their programs, Outpost, is a 2-week camping experience that’s mainly geared toward campers with autism. The Fowler Center was in need of a new pavilion at their campsite for the campers to utilize for activities such as meals and games.…

My experience with the after school book club at Madison Elementary today was an exciting yet my patience was tested by a seven year old little boy named Jose. Today I was excited to see if my group would enjoy the book, “Where the Wild Things Are,” due to the fact everyone agreed they enjoy reading adventure books. Consequently, one of my group members, Jose, had already read the book and watched the movie and let the whole group know it was “boring.” Already bored he instantly lost interest in the book and the group and was making it known by distracting the other group members around him. Usually his partner in crime, Gilbert, agrees with him and goes along with him but this time was different and he ignored his friend because he was actually…

Ianna Zarkowski Reflective Narrative The smell of rubbing alcohol and latex gloves seeps through the walls of the white hospital waiting room. Quiet and empty, but my thoughts fill the room and leave questions in every empty seat. I can’t remember how I got here, it all just happened so fast. "Tuck in your shirt!" A booming voice sounded off in my ear, and my hands moved frantically to tuck the ends of my shirt into my khaki shorts. Keep your eyes straight and whatever you do, do not drop it, I thought. My arms were sore and heavy: they were full of the fifty pound footlocker I had to carry without setting down.…

I thought that my father, the man that I looked up to so much would not be there to help push me or be there to support me anymore if he left. I sat and cried in his arms in the driveway of a rented cabin for what seemed like hours. I can still almost taste the salt of my tears from that day or the feel the goosebumps on my skin from the harsh cold wind that was blowing and swirling around us. I can definitely still feel the heartbreak I felt whenever his truck’s tires rolled across the gravel and onto the main road. But the most important thing I can remember was that my dad came back that night.…

Thanks the Texas Exes alumni, I was able to go to Camp Texas for free this year. At first I thought that it was like any normal 3- day camping trip, which made me extremely excited since I enjoy camping very much. Once I got there, I realized that it was a different type of camp. I was nervous and scared because I’m not very good at socializing. The reason I’m writing this is because I learned so much about being open minded, accepting, and kind to other people and new experiences.…

I belong with my grandfather, tucking me in bed for tonight. But this wasn’t the case, I opened my eyes and tried so hard not to cry, instead I closed my eyes again and started to think about how great our future was going to be. As a result of more over thinking, I wanted to clear away the sadness of leaving my family behind. I finally had the courage and asked Amine about my dad.…
