Personal Narrative: The Assassination Of My Wife

Improved Essays
Kay is just as real about things as her husband. I encountered the indignation of Kay when she visited our ward when my wife was pregnant with Naomi, our oldest daughter. My wife had been ill that day and her complexion was yellow. My wife is dark brown; so, for her complexion to be yellow she was truly ill! I saw Afryka walking out of the cultural hall of the Smyrna building looking uncharacteristically destressed! “You look horrible,” I said. I did not mean she was ugly. I meant that she was sick and needed to go home and rest. I should have actually said that because my wife later told me it hurt her feelings. Apparently, Kay was in tune with my wife’s feelings because she attacked me with some venom. “I know you didn’t,” she said, “You don’t look all that hot yourself with those chipped teeth! How you gon see your wife and tell her she look horrible. You look horrible! She pregnant with your …show more content…
I think she was several months pregnant with her first son. Jermaine and I became louder and louder as she lay on the sofa in our house talking about whether or not spirits had internal organs. Yeah, we actually argued! Well, I argued, Jermaine just tried to reason. The conversation went similar to this:
“Johnson, come on man. You cannot know that spirits have organs,” he said smiling. I think he enjoyed the fact that I was squirming and reaching at the topic. He rarely called me by my first name either.
“Yes I do. I know that spirits have internal organs because Brigham Young said that our spirits look like our bodies.”
“Johnson, come on now. Just because the outside of the spirit looks like the mortal body doesn’t mean the insides do.”
“Jermaine, I know what I am talking about. The body is a copy of the spirit. When we get resurrected, we will have organs that look just like the perfect organs of our

Jackson’s knowledge argument shows that there are certain facts that physicalism does not explain. To enhance this argument, Jackson uses a thought experiment. He proposes the example of a black and white room, and someone named Mary living in it. He says that although, she knew previous facts of colour, she still learns something that she had not known before, which was what red looks like. Mary comes to know the subjective character if red.…

In making a concept of the body, spirit, and soul, I adapted Plato's Charioteer Analogy. In this analogy, it is said that the charioteer is the soul and horses are the spirit and body. As the charioteer (soul) it leads the spirit and body, it is the seat of wisdom. While the good horse (spirit) follows everything the charioteer commanded. And the bad or naughty horse (body) that sometimes disobey the charioteer's order.…

A philosophical zombie is functionally identical organism to a human being, yet they lack a conscious experience or qualia. The knowledge argument: Mary is a brilliant scientist who has extensive knowledge about physical theory and is a ‘perfect reasoner’. When Mary leaves the black and white room, and sees the ripe red tomato; she acquires new knowledge of experience. Mary experiences what it is like to see red. Despite knowing everything about color perception, Mary is not able to deduce the color experience from the physical theory.…

Focusing on Question One of Aquinas’ Questions on the Soul, explain what it means to Aquinas for the soul to be both form and entity. Present Aquinas’ argumentation for the position, and briefly indicate whether you find the arguments convincing or not, and your reasons. From the very fact that Aquinas begins his Questions on the Soul with the question of whether the soul is both a form and entity, we are perhaps already introduced to the significance of this position for the defence of his specific notion of the human soul. Despite this, such a position does not appear an easy one to defend. Taken in its broadest sense, if the soul thought to be an entity, and hence a substantial and complete being in its own right, how may it possibly…

In what ways are the similarities between St. Paul’s “Letter to the Corinthians” and John Donne’s “Meditation 17” actually very different? These two theological readings seem to teach us the same thing, but in truth their authors seem to express different values of the same subject. While the much older St. Paul writes about the body of the church and it’s people as not only suffering together, but also celebrating, supporting, and teaching one another how to lead a better life to get closer to God. The much younger John Donne writes about the body of the church and it’s people introducing a stronger focus on suffering and our eventual death being the way to get closer to God instead. Despite the fact that these readings seem very similar on the surface, a closer look reveals their simple differences and core values.…

In Judaism, the soul is the referred to as nephesh and ruah, which means breath and wind or spirit respectively. In John Perry’s “A Dialogue on Personal Identity and Immortality,” there are many arguments that discuss the criterion of personal identity. Within The First Night, Gretchen Weirob and Sam Miller begin to discuss the idea of an immaterial soul and its reasonability of existence, which is the main idea. Miller discusses the various reasons why an immaterial soul exists while Weirob argues its existence and eventually, its relevance. Throughout the dialogue, Miller introduces various theories to support the idea of an immaterial soul and its use of allowing the survival of a person after death. His main theory represents the principle of “Same body, same self” (Perry, 325) otherwise discussed as “same body, same soul.”…

It would seem unimaginable that in time God would resurrect all persons who have passed to their original bodily form. That those who were cremated and their ashes spread in the ocean or on earth would be restored by God’s will. Like most people, I’ve experienced loss of a loved one, my mother who was cremated and her ashes spread in Rocky Mountain National Park, her request while living. Linda Badham’s realistic approach of resurrection and the problems associated with life after death brought about a sense of fear and dread within me. Linda Badham brings to light, how unlikely is it that our various atoms would come together to reconstruct our original human form (Peterson, et al., Philosophy of Religion, p.507)?…

Avicenna in his major work Kitab Al-Najat argues that the human soul is not material. He argues that the rational faculty, namely the soul, does not know through physical organ. In this sense, he can prove that the soul is not inhered in the material body, therefore indicating that the soul is immaterial. Avicenna argued in Kitab Al-Najat that “for there is no organ between the rational faculty and itself, nor does one intervene between it and its organ or between it and the fact that it knows”. Over time philosophers have had many views on whether or not the soul is real, do we have one or is it something that is made up for the sake of religion and scaring people into becoming just? Is there a difference between the mind and the brain? Are the soul and the mind connected and do they even exist? The brain is a powerful organ that causes hallucinations and controls our personality and as much as I believe our brain does control these things there is still a part of me that believes we all have souls. An article written by Jay Tolson for US News and World Report questions if there is even room for the soul.…
