With the constant stress we are put through at school, I find that reading really helps me relax. I know you are equally as stressed and may be in need of a pleasant afternoon. As an avid reader, I have read many books about many different topics. Zombies, vampire, magicians, you name it; I have read them all. Anything from Harry Potter to Kite Runner, I have devoured so many stories, my mind will probably implode by the end of the year. In my experience, I have found too many books that should have never been written, but there is one that was fantastic! I’ve had Ashes in mind for you for quite some time. By branching out of my typical genre of fantasy, I have found that I am fond of science fiction novels as well. Thinking back to freshman …show more content…
I realize now that I have been incessantly pestering you to read this series, but I haven’t expanded on exactly why you would love this book. So, first off, I would like to say one word: zombies! Yes, it’s another zombie book, but this one has a unique twist. Rather than being undead, these zombies are still alive; they just eat people. See, it all began on day when a giant electromagnetic pulse flooded the earth causing all adults, ages 20-50, to drop dead on the spot. While many people died, all youth were turned into flesh eating zombies, but the twist is that these kids are still alive, though they’ve lost all traces of humanity. What is so interesting about this series is that the main character is a teenage cancer patient who survives ‘The Zap’. Being a subject to chemo therapy, she had previously lost all sense of smell, but now, instead of developing a hankering for brains, she is gifted with the ability to smell emotions and even sense when ‘The Changed’ are near. Along with anyone with a brain abnormality, the elderly who were victims of alzheimer's have somehow managed to regain their memories and function on a normal level. Together, the spared and the elderly must unite to save the world. Overall, this series is action packed, and there is never a dull moment. Once you pick it up, you will not put it down; it’s rather

The Crevasse “Adversity is the source of our deepest growth and greatest blessings; embrace it, dare to seek It,” that was a quote from Aron Ralston, who fell down a crevasse and his arm was wedged under a rock, which inspired the movie “127 Hours.” One day I was going to the creek with my friends, Matthew and Kendal, to hang out. We had this amazing spot that had a bridge that we made and everything. We were bringing further supplies to add on to the spot and make it look more visually appealing. When we arrived at the park we brought all of the supplies down under a bridge.…

The pain began slowly, pricking me with its sharp needles only while doing barre in ballet once a week. I ignored it, believing it to be normal, common discomfort that would soon go away, typical thoughts of a dancer whose entire sport is centered around “good pain”. Six months later, it had escalated to the degree that every step I took felt like an arrow to my knee. Dancing had become impossible, and it was determined that I should be taken to the orthopedist. The bland, brown and beige lobby became extraordinarily familiar as I waited two hours to be examined.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…
