My parents strived to achieve the American dream; they worked long, irregular hours resulting in many missed birthdays and holidays. However, even from the young age of five, as an innocent kindergarten, I understood that they were working to provide me the life that they- nor my older siblings- had. Through their perseverance and determination, I have learned that my dreams are never too big. No matter how little sleep he got or how little he had to offer his family, he always found a way to see the good in a situation. Before the age of twenty, he had decided he was not pleased with the life he had and was set on changing it. With an education no greater than that of an eighth grader, he was left to work under brutal conditions only to provide the bare minimum. However, he never lost focus in his goal: live the American dream. His hard work paid off; he was able to send my two sisters to esteemed colleges and give experiences that he wouldn't have been able to have had without his determination. My father is my hero. His outlook and willpower have taught me that regardless of where I start, what matters most is to be proud of where I end.
