An American Dream for an individual can be defined as an envisioned future where one is happy and has what they believe to be a perfect life. At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

I never really got a chance to get to know my Aunt Marilena, seeing that she lived in McLean, Virginia and I almost never saw her. I didn’t really think her life was ever that complicated or rough; her husband (my uncle) is a millionaire, so she never has to worry about anything money related, she’s a stay-at-home mom. I just didn’t really think about it until I sat down to talk to her about her college experiences. We were at my grandpa’s house in Columbus, Ohio, she was there to help him move out, sitting at the dining room table. Hands folded on the table, she looked alert and ready to answer my questions.…

This night was to be unusual, for as I fell asleep I found myself in a nightmare, but not an ordinary one; not one that people fear because of an imminent demise, but instead fear of reflection. I lie my head against my pillow that night with no idea what was to happen, but the dream coming would change my perspective… permanently. I found as I awoke in a new reality, I was heading to an unknown destination on a airplane. Looking out the window, the skies shined with pure sunlight, and that sunlight bouncing off the misty clouds that ran on the horizon like the hills. Upon finished descent of the plane, I exited to find myself in an unfamiliar place, and in the middle of my confusion, a phone call came in.…
