Personal Narrative: Teenage Driving

Driving
I gotta admit before I had got my permit I was impatient and couldn’t wait to get it but when I did I realized it wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be. See when I was 14 I just couldn’t wait to take drivers ed. to grow up and to be able to drive and have the world open up, to new places far and wide. So of course I was like many teens my age and took drivers Ed as soon as possible. Amazingly I passed and so did my classmates. Anyways I really lucked out and a bunch of friends from Wiggins were doing the class as well so we all had some fun.
One of my favorite times was when Anthony and I had to make a project for the class. It was hysterical, we had to make a car crash accident which involved him taking a video while I put on makeup and tried to flip my little brothers toy jeep. Sadly while driving it ran out of battery and we had to put it on a curb so while I was “doing my makeup” (a major reason for accidents) I had to try to flip the vehicle. Needless to say that was what made me even more eager to drive. After the project the next thing we did was drove around in a parking lot. It was different cause it had been awhile since I had driven, so it was rather interesting still I couldn't wait to have my license.
Finally a little while after driver's ed I went up to Ft. Morgan and took the test, it took forever and a day waiting

Yes I can't believe I just said it but I did and I was actually somewhat happy for school to start. Anyway after that it was my aunt’s birthday and so I decided to drive up to and in Denver. I had made a major mistake and was terrified. It started just like any other drive and it was easy, then we started to hit what I thought was traffic, but was barely anything compared to what was ahead. When we finally hit Denver it was havoc there were cars everywhere and so many exits my head was spinning. That was only the beginning of what was to

This was the year of 2016, and this was the year that my life changed; I was forced to grow up and learn how to be more independent. The first step to my seeking of independence was turning 16 years old and getting my driver’s license. This meant I was finally able to go out on my own and not rely on others to take me places anymore. In the year of 2016, I also began taking classes at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute to earn college credits.…

Driver’s Ed is meant to teach young drivers how to act behind the wheel and the ins and outs of driving. However, Driver’s Ed is not meant to be fun by any means. I found this out the hard way when I took Driver’s Ed last summer. It took all of my strength, will-power and endurance to make it through one of the most boring weeks of my entire life. The whole story begins with my older brother.…

The thought of getting behind the wheel seemed like far too much responsibility. While waiting for my mom to drive me anywhere was a somewhat aggravating loss of freedom, I felt I needed more time before I went back to piloting heavy machinery. I felt obligated to act almost as I had when I was first getting my license- I even spent awhile only driving with one of my parents in the passenger seat. At first, I was screaming internally from the moment I put the key in the ignition to the moment I parked it at my destination. Changing lanes made me very anxious, I saw all cars as threats (actually I still do), and unprotected left hand turns came close to actually frightening me.…

Melanie, Violet, Summer, Mark, Travis, Justin and myself, America, have been friends since freshmen year at Guelph University in Guelph Ontario, Canada. Every year we promised each other that we’d go away for reading week, but as the years went on none of us had the time or energy or money to go anywhere, we all just wanted to stay local, and sleep in the comfort of our hometown, Guelph. As senior year was approaching and the thought of all of us going our separate ways, we decided that we’d go to Montreal for the week, the number one party city in Canada since the lifestyle is very easygoing and carefree especially among the young crowd. I wasn’t that much of a partier but I figured it would be a good way to de-stress and just enjoy being 23 without having my head stuffed into a book.…

Most teenage drivers are involved in car crashes every year, and more are killed than in any other age group. Even to this day, 6,000 teens die in accidents annually—more than fifteen a day (Triplett 1). These alarming statistics prove that receiving a driver’s license at the age of sixteen is merely too young. Teenagers are incompetent about being on the road, which increases the chances of putting others at risk because they have not developed a strong level of maturity and experience. The driving age among teens should be increased because facts prove that teenagers cannot handle the physiological and physical challenges that approach them on the road.…

In Chapter 5 on Page 161, the section is on learning. The text says, ”The reasoning behind counterconditioning is this: if fears, as Watson has shown, can be conditioned by painful experiences, perhaps fears can be counterconditioned by substituting pleasant experiences.” Often times when people have fear, they want to learn how not to be afraid anymore. This can be done by flooding, where the person with the fear is forced into the situation over and over again unti l the fear is no longer a fear. Another way to do it, and I feel this is preferred, is counterconditioning.…
