Sometimes making decisions can be hard, especially as you get older, and when your friends and teacher put pressure on you, it gets even harder. I used to think that when people got pressured to do something, it was not a big deal, but I was proved wrong when I experienced that situation myself. Usually, orchestra does not pressure me because I know that I will have enough time to learn the music, but this time, it was different. My orchestra teacher handed out All-Region music, and I thought it would be something I could learn in a week or two, but when I looked at the music, I was incredibly shocked. I had only taken one look at the music, and I was already starting to get nervous. This was definitely something new for me, and it was not something I liked. It was getting a lot harder to argue back. The pressure continued for a couple of weeks, and soon enough, it started to get to me. I decided to make my friend happy and try out. During the first week, I was doing pretty good, but that didn't last long. Learning the music had been a lot harder than I thought. The pressure of having to learn the music turned into stress, and I couldn't handle it anymore. I knew that I had to get rid of the stress, and that meant not trying out. The screeching of my violin echoed off the wall as I struggled to play Mendelssohn's concerto in E minor. The double stops that were meant to flow in harmony came out in a jumbled mass of notes indistinguishable from the shriek of a dying cow. I whimpered as these terrible sounds emitted out of my violin, and threw my violin down in defeat. I slowly tilted my head towards the clock, a terrifying reminder that my addition was only 10 min away. I gathered up my music, and ambled away from the empty practice room to where my judge would listen to my audition.…

"Good better best, never let it rest, 'till your good is better and your better is best." These simple words were spoken to me by my high school band director Cheldon Williams on the first day of my high school experience. This, followed by my experience of marching band and my eventual learning of piano sparked a period of introspective thought, and mental growth, that transcended to where I am today. Never in my life did I think my hard work and dedication inspired by Mr. Williams words would land me at Interlochen Center for the Performing Arts Boarding School. These words became a core part of what I am, and from freshman year on would encourage me to never set a limit on my potential, and my overall worth.…
