I and my friends, Dexter and Peter, were playing around an ancient, abandoned mansion on the outskirts of the city. There was a sign on the perimeter fence “Enter, at your own risk!”. However, curiosity arose us and we picked the rusty lock, granting us entry into the sacred place of the unknown. I unlocked the door, to my horror, scarce bones, were precariously hanging, from the ceiling above. There was a sudden rush of blood from my head to my toes as the door behind us swung shut. At the sight of the bones, the three of us were completely dumbfounded. Our jaws hung wide open for a few minutes trembling with fear before we came back to our senses. My sixth sense told me that something was about to go wrong, I urged the other two to back out

We had been planning on going to this old abandoned house for some time, and now we were finally going to see if it was truly haunted or not. Well, as we walked I had noticed a blueish, greenish, truck driving down the silent back road. We really didn’t pay much attention until it started to get creepy and the truck started following us. By the time we had noticed we were already close to the house and we decided to dart into the woods, to a tree that we could climb and see what was going from. Our hearts were pounding from the anxiety, and I had noticed both of us had our hands clenched around our pocket knives that were probably a little too big to be carrying around in public.…

I discovered my first visual metaphor after i had gotten out of the shower this morning. I shut the water off, hopped out of the shower and grabbed a hanging towel from the wall. Because of this exercise i was keeping an eye out for everyday items that struck me as something familiar. As soon as i pulled the towel off of its hanger it appeared to me that a whale had just jumped out of the water. The whale was all submerged except for its tail.…

I start creating my work by replaceing traditional lighting associated with photgraphy with the lighting of tv screens. Then I continue following an image by also removing the figure as the main portion of the image , to make the figure less important. Finally, when i capture these images I use long exposures which creates a stillness of the image, except for the human figure, which creates this blurr and motion in the image. My images are a series of self portriats.…

I used to love writing when I was young; however, I fell out of love very quickly. In middle school, I was an avid reader and enjoyed writing but my eighth grade teacher changed this habit completely. The teacher assigned so many essays that at some point I started to see writing as a chore. This outlook on writing continued throughout ninth and tenth grade because of all the work the teachers assigned. I stopped writing and reading for fun, I only wrote and read for school.…

For some strange reason, this week got me thinking a lot about Disney and how it took unique characters like Pochantas and changed the storyline to "Westernize" it. I feel that, in the same nature, indigenous religions were affected so harshly by the rise of Christianity and the traveling of settlers. It is sad to think that even today there are Native Americans fighting the government in order to keep their land safe. I grew up going to this one art class and every single class the teacher would read us a new tale. I used to be so entrapped with the mythology behind every story.…

So i'm going to be meditative in my essay because when i write about my feelings i feel so much better and i don't really have a best friend to really talk to and maybe this isn't like meditative but it helps me concentrate and actually have something interesting to write about. Everything i change will be in blue writing, and so far while rereading my essay I started a lot of sentences with “So” So to start of I joined a sorority and m not trying to be those typical “it was the best decision of my life” because it's really not. Like I could've been better without doing it but i made that decision to be in it…

Gilbert Keith Chesterton once said, “When it comes to life the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.” I didn’t realize the full meaning of this until I was 10 at a modeling/acting competition in Atlanta. “Wake up, Johanna!” My mom called. “Today’s the day.”…

When I was born, I was 95% blind, everything was a gestural abstract piece of artwork, well-made and beautiful. However, it was distorted in such a way that it holds no exact shape. Growing up I was completely dependent on my sense of touch and sound as my main senses. The hands of those around me told a story which today still rivals all my favorite books. My fathers had would tell a struggling tale of a boy who had to work all his life and grew strong from his immense yet daunting journey.…
