Personal Narrative: Sweet Osmanthus In America

Decent Essays
Unfortunately, I can hardly find sweet osmanthus in America. I can only dream of it. I dreamed about walking through a street in my hometown with a lot of sweet osmanthus at both side many times. My nose seems can smell the fragrance of sweet osmathus in my dream. I never dance in reality life, but I danced with flowers in my dream. I saw the smile on my face all the time. I remember when I had first bought the Marigold seeds, I was looking at the picture on the seed packet examining the beautiful elegant flowers. I rushed home, I ripped open the packet and started to dig little holes in my yard for my new flowers. Days later, I watched them grow as if they were my own children; I watched them become vibrant and full of life. They had given me the hope and happiness I lost when the Great Depression hit. They had lit up my dull and boring yard and made my days brighter.…

Throughout the play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, Mama’s Plant is clearly used to show the struggle of life in South-Side Chicago and how its residents tend to make the most out of everything they have. South-Side Chicago is notoriously known for being one of the worst areas to live in America as it has high crime, high poverty, high unemployment, low opportunity, lack of funding into the system, as well as a lack of proper schooling. Residents of this specific area are faced with the decision to become another oppressed statistic on the “failure” of the neighborhood, or break the status quo by living life to the fullest and attempting to make the most out of all the things present in the current environment. Mama’s plant does…

What if that were not the case? What if we have been fooled into believing that everything is in our hands and then we try our hardest to end up becoming something that has already been planned for us by a power larger than existence? Botanical Garden Observations On this Wednesday evening at 1800 on October 05, 2016 I am at one of the most prestigious popular hotels on the Las Vegas, NV strip. I am at the botanical garden where a new world is created with flowers and other natural resources to create wonderment for the current season; each season is changed and every year is different. While inside the botanical gardens I first want to soak up my environment with my eyes closed; I can heighten my senses to the various sounds and smells and get a varying perspective on my area. Once I experience the area with my eyes closed for about ten minutes I then want to touch as much as I can and look around.…
