BE AMBITIOUS
When I was at kindergarten, playing with play dough and learning to write my name, I dreamt of creating a machine that could whiz me from one side of the world to another in no time at all. When I was at primary school, I enjoyed playing chess every single lunchtime, and I dreamt of becoming a world famous, world conquering chess champion – obviously the coolest role ever. When I was at my intermediate school, I enjoyed every science fair, and I dreamt of becoming a scientist. Now I am at high school, and my dream is to, to pass.
To pass? How pathetic! How can I, a person who once dreamt of creating an instantaneous teleporter that would make the wizards on Harry Potter envious, just aspire to pass? Why is it that when we grow up, our ambitions vanish * into thin air?

Just over a hundred years back, "man could not fly” because this was the "reality". The reality was that it was impossible – it would never happen. Now, if that was truly the “reality”, then what did the Wright brothers do? And how did some of you and your ancestors get to this very country? Only when we start to be ambitious, can we dreams. Only when we have dreams, can we soar with our dreams.
It is without doubt that ambition leads to success; full stop. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” I’m not saying that ambition is the be all and end all of all success – yes there has to be hard work, determination and persistence – but it is a fact that all successful people are ambitious. Bill Gates didn’t create Microsoft by dreaming of being average. Nelson Mandela didn’t achieve peace and equality while fantasising of mediocrity. All successful people are ambitious. Their ambition is what drives them. Their ambition is how they defeat
