Personal Narrative: Sunnydale

Improved Essays
SunnyDale, That‘s where I grew up. It was the place where if you lived there people expected nothing good to come out of you. Around the age of 6 my mother moved us to South San Francisco due to the violence that occurred, but that didn’t change the labels. People would always comment about my family living in SunnyDale how my uncle sold dope, my aunt always throwing the wildest parties. I didn’t want to be seen as some kid who’s from the “Ghetto” growing up to become nothing in life. I will be the first child/ grandchild to attend a four year University or State. I vowed to prove everyone wrong that I wasn’t just a label in society. My family has moved around from the Tenderloin to the Mission and SunnyDale. People view all these places

Since I was born, New York City has been my life, my blood, and bones; I have grown and lived with many different people with different backgrounds. My neighborhoods have shaped me into who I am today, I am flexible and open, like raw clay, enough to be changed and formed. Then there is the Bronx, a borough of New York, where you have to be strong, or you will not survive, a place where all races are together, and everyone is noisy. I live in a community where there are mostly Hispanics, and where there are always car passing by and honking, during the day it is the only sound you can here, and ear-piercing bird calls, but during the night there is always some kind of party, either that or just really loud music. I have grown to get use…

On the above date and time I responded to 5142 Bay Boulevard, reference an unresponsive subject. Dispatch advised me while en-route that there was a male caller who advised that his wife was unresponsive inside of the residence. I was the first to arrive on scene at the residence. Due to that fact, I removed my AED from the trunk of my patrol vehicle and proceeded to the front door of the residence.…

Throughout my life I have lived in three cultural distinct regions Lima Peru, White Plains New York and Baltimore Maryland. For the first two years of my life I lived in Lima, Peru and even though I never culturally adapted myself into the culture I would often visit for months and immerse myself into the culture. I can say with confidence that if I grew up in that culture I would not my be the same person I am today because of the fact that they are a collectivistic country and that would change my outlook on myself and the community around me. At around my second birthday my family and I decided to move to the United States in search of a better quality of life. While most of my family live in Baltimore, Maryland my father had already established himself in White Plains, New York a…

I currently reside in Markham, the city is a part of York Region and is located just north of Toronto. I moved there at the end of eighth grade, and since then it has been my hometown. Markham is a boring place to be, rarely does anything eventful ever happens, and there is really nothing to do, there is a mall, a theatre and occasionally there’s a festival, which is pretty much it. This is aided by the fact that crime is low in the city, there are few murders and little robberies, with most notable crimes being the occasional weed deal here and there. Markham is also a quiet place, mainly thanks to a small population, the minimal traffic and lack of pedestrians keeps noise to a minimum.…

I grew up in a place where the neighbors lived a mile away, the animals ran loose all the time, and if you really felt like it, you could walk outside naked and nobody could really see you. It was a small town where everybody knew everybody; when driving down the road, you knew who was in the car passing you, and by the off chance you didn't, you still waved anyways. Going to the local gas station for a soda or to fill up the truck turned into a trip to go see your friends and visit. The family lived right around the corner, and bonfires were a regular thing. "Sedgewickville Population: 173" is what the town's sign said.…

Growing up in one of the poorest regions of the United States has taught me two things; one, we are not defined by stereotypes, and two, hardships are made to be overcome. Nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, Middlesboro, KY sits on the Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia border. The multicolored fall foliage and the vivid green mountains in the spring are disserved by the descriptor spectacular. My roots are firmly nestled in the Cumberland Gap where Daniel Boone started his journey to the West decades ago. I am proud to call myself an Appalachian-American.…

Having a community where you can lean back on is one of the most important things that I have had in my life. Neighborhood Narrative I was raised in the city of Oakland, where crime was an occasional thing, and homeless people living in parks was an everyday sight.
