Netflix is something that’s rapidly become a part of society’s everyday life. It’s been taking over cable television, and shockingly taking over some people’s lives. Last weekend I visited my family’s log cabin in what’s known to be the middle of nowhere in rural Pennsylvania. Since there is absolutely no cable there, I knew I had to figure out a way to bring a system to watch the show that has been taking over my life, Stranger Things. We knew we could bring my computer and watch it from there, but we were well aware of how irritating it is to watch a show with another person through a computer screen versus a television. To escape squeezing next to one another sharing a little screen, my brother decided to bring …show more content…
An old fashioned keyboard, with a USB wire. Although we were relieved when we figured out we could still watch Stranger Things, we hadn’t realized that not one neighbor of ours still owned a wired keyboard for a PC computer. The availability of this product was especially limited. We went to various different stores until finding what we needed. Even then, the Walmart clerk didn’t know if they still carry these keyboards. We were asked over and over in each store if we were sure we weren’t looking for a wireless keyboard. After a long manhunt for this old fashioned keyboard, we found one, and then we just had to figure out how to control it in comparison to our up-to-date controller we were so used to …show more content…
If I were to define a platform it would be almost anything that is compatible. I focus on the user experience and engagement since both altered from using the keyboard in place of the controller. Although the new device didn’t change much of the text, I found many noticeable modifications that were striking within the engagement and experience of the user. Firstly, the bulky keyboard was just impractical to bring around and travel with, compared to our compact remote controller. However, there was a positive aspect to the size of the keyboard as well. I noticed when Netflix asked me to sign in, I much rather type my username and password quickly on the large keyboard that I’m so familiar with. When comparing this interaction to typing it through a controller, the keyboard is actually shown on the television. This forces you to leisurely move through the keyboard shown on the screen which is considerably far away with extremely small characters until finding each and every letter or number, which can get very time consuming. The time difference it took to plug in my information with the keyboard in this situation shows the suitability of the keyboard in this occurrence. It took me under thirty seconds to type my information in on a keyboard, but with the controller it takes me almost a couple minutes. The keyboard portrayed on the television is inconvenient and hard to work with, as well as far
