There is something inside of me that longs for a physical challenge; therefore, sports have always been a prominent aspect of my life. I tried every one offered at my school but never took a particular interest in any of them. Then, one day, I was asked to join the cross country team. The coach told me that as a five foot, six inches, muscular seventh grader, I seemed like the perfect addition to the team. With no other sport currently in season, I had no reason not to give it a chance. Plus, I was one of the few who enjoyed the jogs that we were required to do in conditioning of all other sports, so maybe I would take a liking to cross country. However, my body was limiting how much I could actually do. I wanted to be back out there with my team regardless of how weak I would look. With peak performance as a runner seemingly out of reach, I focused my energy on the relationships I had formed with my teammates.
