Personal Narrative-Steve's Giant Lincoln Towncar

Improved Essays
We piled into Steve's giant Lincoln Towncar and drove for hours out into the fields and pastures of Texas ranch country. Exhausted, David and I fell asleep in the back seat. After some time we were jostled awake when Steve turned off of the pavement onto a bumpy dirt road marked only by a gnarled old tree.

His spread was a small homestead of 80 acres. Hardly a spec in the vast open plains of Texas but it suited us just fine. We settled right into ranch life. David worked with Steve in the barnyard and out in the fields. He learned to ride horses and rope cattle. His hands became hard and calloused. I helped Steve's wife Alma around the house and in the garden. We worked from sun-up to sun-down. At night we would sit in rocking chairs on the

As the truck approached an easement that connected Highway 40 to old Farmers Road, Ronnie Joe felt a sudden chill. He wrapped his jacket tightly around him and sank into his seat. Along that easement was a neighborhood known to locals as Butterville, made up of weather beaten wooden houses on quarter-acre plots with at least a half mile between them. A neighborhood for the menial and the mendicant. There was no running water, no electricity, and no hope.…

Document I, a story from the western frontier explains how those new to the territory lived on government controlled land in difficult conditions. “Happy Valley seems to derive its name from the merry character of its citizens who all live in tens, doing their own cooking and washing, and sleeping on the ground. The ground is owned by the government and is reserved for a navy yard”. Those who lived on the frontier faced many difficult situations, especially because of the social class differences. “I think Margaret has written often but owing to the disarrangement of the Post Office and the distance that I am from one, 50 miles, makes it very difficult to get letters.…

On a beautiful clear morning of February the 19th, my mom picked me up from my class at the University of West Georgia, then we went to Waffle House to have a nice breakfast. We left from Waffle House, proceeding down Maple Street, and turned onto South Street and immediately onto Kenner Street. We then turned onto on the merging lane on South Park Street (US Hwy 27) heading south, we immediately halted to a full stop as vehicles moved from the middle lane into the merging lane in front of us, but at that time there were no vehicles behind us. As we waited to enter traffic, a car suddenly struck us from behind which caused the car to jerk violently forward, causing my mother’s chest to hit the steering wheel, and our heads and bodies to whip forward and then back.…

After putting on our bright pink leotards and ballet shoes, which trust me we're not the most fashionable, we went out to the car to wait on Dianna’s mom. I should mention it was still raining as if the earth would flood outside, this made it slightly hard to hear but we ran out to the car anyway. Me, Dianna, and Dalton bolted through the door, sprinting to the car that Dianna had unlocked with the small remote. The cold rain made the humid, hot day not feel as bad as the rest of that summer had been, which was dry and hot. When we got into the car we sat for a bit but then Dianna decided she wanted to turn on the music so she jumps to the front seat of the car.…

On the way to Colorado the family had stopped in North Platte, Nebraska at Cody Go-Karts. However, it had looked like a replica of an old, wooden, log fort. Outside of the fort-like track the sound was inaudible, but once inside it, it was a dome full of sound. The sound of the Go-kart tires screeched as they went around the turns. Some going really fast making the family wonder if they were alright or if they had gotten whiplash.…

The ride home from the mall with my Great Uncle Stan and all my brothers and sisters was agonizing. My younger brother Quinton would not stop crying that we had gone the wrong way back home. On the other hand, Donnajo was attempting to sit in Uncle Stan’s lap while he was in the middle of driving, which more than likely caused the events that happened later on that night. Now even though it sounds really inappropriate for their age, all three of my recently nine-year-old siblings were in the front seat. We were in what used to be Stan’s truck, meaning there were only three seats in the front.…

We got tickets from entering this raffle, and the tickets had the name of a famous monster truck derby on it. A monster truck derby would be cool, but I didn’t want to sit in one spot for three hours. And the drive would be long as well. The traffic was going to be horrible since it was a big monster truck derby and we already lived two hours away.…

On a hillside in small Kettlepot, Arkansas there was a big abandoned farm. It used to serve the whole town with that white milk and vegetables. I shakily grasped the wooden frame in one hand and slowly spun the wheels with the other. Carefully, I set the car on the floor, balancing the trigger on the axle. One microscopic movement would send the whole vehicle racing down the hallway; hopefully. I slowly lifted up the unsharpened pencil lying next to me. Holding my arm completely rigid I just barely flicked the trigger so it slid slightly to the left.…

The new assignment intrigued Ruth since she had never dealt with protesters, but was determined to write an article that would impress her editor. When she drove into the parking lot at the Modern Girl’s Cosmetic Factory, she got out of the car and saw several people walking back and forth in front of the building, carrying large signs. The messages written in large black letters on bright-colored poster boards clearly stated. ‘NO FACTORY IN OUR TOWN USING OUR ANIMALS and SAVE OUR PETS’. On the other side of the building, she noticed others carrying similar signs stating ‘ANIMALS ARE PLENTIFUL’, ‘WE NEED JOBS’ and ‘COSMETICS DON’T KILL’ ‘TOO MANY ANIMALS, USE THEM’.…

Preface I chose to write the Long Road as it is a story I can relate to. As when I was younger as we were travelling to Northern Territory for a family holiday and we ran out of diesel. I think this could help others and make them aware of bringing extra fuel or petrol when going into an uncivilised area. I thought this would be a good topic to right on as it is a real Australian stereotype to be in the outback and run out of fuel.…

My first car was something that I greatly was looking forward to getting as a child and my interest in getting one grew, as the days got closer to my sixteenth birthday. The first car I owned was a Automatic Black 2004 Ford f-150 truck, which I discovered on a website called Craigslist. It was priced at five thousand nine hundred dollars with only eighty-four thousand miles on it, which in my case was great considering that I could only afford a seven thousand dollar car. The truck came with all manual locks and windows and also had a small amount of hail damage that could really only be seen at a certain angle. But even with reasonable price on the truck I still attempted to negotiate for an even lower price to further my luck.…
