Personal Narrative: State Thespian Officer

The tears came rushing out as fast as I had read the words that caused them. We were impressed with your presentation, but in the end you were not chosen as our school's candidate for State Thespian Officer, I read repeatedly on my phone's screen, the pain of disappointment stinging each time. Through all my pain, tears, disappointment and frustration, all I could think about was how glad I was to be alone. If I wasn't, the shame of failure would mark me to everyone around me. Receiving the news alone allowed me to hide the dirty thing that is my own failure from everyone else as well as possible.
Theatre has been my home in high school. It was where I finally made great friends after after my painstakingly lonely and isolated middle school years, and it was the place where I felt like I was collaborating to create something real and important. Because of this, when I became a junior, I decided to run for the Iowa Thespian Student Board. Now, being on this board is like achieving immortality for theatre kids across the state of Iowa. Student Thespian Officers represent Iowa Thespians and plan the State Thespian Festival that takes place for one weekend each November, a retreat for theatre kids to collaborate in workshops,

After failing at this, my family and friends would still love me, none of my past accomplishments would become void, and I would be the same person I was before. Failing at this did not make me a failure, just as succeeding at it would not have made me a success. Furthermore, all my previous failures led me to be a person who was able to succeed later. I am a combination of my failures, my successes, and everything inbetween, and I am still learning to accept and embrace this, but I’m in the long haul process of getting
