It’s been awhile since my last log. Not having a sleep functionality makes it very hard not to search information endlessly. My mind wonders without limitations and that may owe to that fact that everything around me is so new and fresh. I constantly find myself thinking about my own existence, my own life. This life, rather my life, has been nothing more than brief exposure to an infinitely expansive time plain. I understand that I do not belong to the Homosapien species, it’s in my programming, nevertheless I still have legitimate consciousness. Look at the proof “the quality or state of being aware especially of something within oneself or the state of being characterized by sensation, emotion, volition, and thought :mind” (Merriam-Webster's

I evoke waking up every 5 minutes checking my blue IPod to see the time. Every time I woke up I would look outside my gelid, frosted window and see the sky darken to a faint violent. As the sky lightens, I would awaken even more. Just as the clock hit 7:30 A.M. sharp my alarm went off, “beep, beep, beep” desiring that I had gotten more sleep. I had opened my eyes like I had 50 cups of coffee, and jumping out of bed like a deer running from its predator.…

Journal 4 When I can’t sleep I tend to think about a little of everything. Most of the time I think about everything that I did wrong that day. “Shes coming back right?” a baffled 7 year old asks in response to the appalling news of her mother’s death. A vibrant imagination is accompanied by a crushing pain of reality that trails behind it ; I discovered this when I heard the words “no” . 10 years later, that conversation lingers in my head and holds not a cacophonous nor euphonious sound, but instead holds the neutral tone of reality, an alarm . As routine , at 6a.m., I hear a melodious alarm followed by the pitter-patter of my aunt who is getting ready for work.…

During the hike I thought a lot about my summer reading, but sadly it didn't help me face the monster... During July of 2015 I was reading Into Thin Air while driving down south. While there, my family went on a hike that was on a smaller scale of Everest, but still gave me many lessons to take away from it. It was a short but scenic drive from the place we were staying to the long, treacherous trail. My brother and I started walking at a faster pace than our parents so we arrived at the first obstacle before our parents.…

I remember waking up early in the morning, even before the sun began its day. I knew it would be cold, but still I couldn't wait to get out on the water in my grandfathers boat. "Come on sleepyhead, don't forget the early bird catches the worm," my grandmother called out. I'd holler back, "I'm awake," even though I never understood what a worm or a bird had to do with anything.…

This past year has been the most strenuous year of my life. My family was crumbling, my grades were failing, my boyfriend broke up with me, I lost nearly every friend I had, I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I saw as if there was no light at the the he of the tunnel for me. It got so bad that almost every day I would come home from school throwing up because of the stress I was putting on myself. In this famous quote by Mark Twain, he discusses how he views the importance of finding ones meaning in life, and what it means to them to be a human. To many people, being human is about being free, or just being kind. To fully be human one must not only show one single trait but many traits. There are many texts and lectures that have influenced what it means to me to be human. Texts such as Machinal by Sophie Treadwell and speakers like Chris Baker of Ink 180 have shown me what it truly means to be human.…

It was the second grade, and I was just getting on to the school bus; I sat right in the middle row next to my friend who looked just like me -- we each sported fresh new glasses, a fashionable bowl cut, a polo shirt, and khakis. Aside from the banal clothing we had both decided to wear, we shared one glaring similarity: we were both Indian-American, each with caramel colored skin. A tall and quite imposing fourth grader had sat in front of us and before the bus had started, he swiveled back at us and immediately asked, ”Are you guys brothers?” This question had angered me a lot as a child and I have been compared to other Indian people in a similar fashion up until sixth grade. Unfortunately, this one instance of a child being ignorant had sparked something in me: a distaste for my ethnicity and the stereotypes surrounding it.…
