Personal Narrative: Star Drill At Softball Practice

Improved Essays
Perspective 1 (Me): Allergies drove me crazy as I waited my turn for the Star Drill at softball practice. Discreetly wiping under my nose, I shifted my weight as I watched my teammates throw the ball around the bases. The catcher threw the ball to Tess, who was standing about ten feet in front of me. I saw it coming in high compared to Tess' small frame, and got prepared for the ball coming at us. Tess jumped up to get the ball, tipped it off her glove, and next thing I knew I was on the ground. Laying on my stomach in the dirt, I felt something warm and wet dripping down my face. Blood. My first bloody nose. Just perfect. My glasses laid on the ground below my face, bent into a semicircle. That's sure going to make my parents happy! My coach and …show more content…
Turning around, I saw Emma lying on the ground, not moving. She slowly pulled her face off of the ground, and that was when I noticed the blood flowing out of her nose. She didn't even make a sound! Emma kept staring at the red dirt below her in shock, not moving, until a few adults came over and helped her stumble towards the dugout. That was going to hurt for a while. If only I had been able to catch that...as seen through my past teammate's eyes.

Perspective 3 (Coach): “Faster! Faster!” I called out to the girls. They need to get quicker. Quick hands, quick feet, quick everything. Be quick, but don't hurry. We are having a good season, but we can do better. I know it. THUD! I looked over towards my daughter, but saw a girl sprawled on the ground behind her. Running over, I noticed it was Emma. Seeing her bloody face and the ball that rolled a few feet away, I figured Tess missed the ball and it hit Emma. My goodness, pay attention! Two parents helped panic-stricken Emma over to the dugout, whose nose had already swelled up like a clementine. Brushing sand over the red dirt, I got practice going again with my command as their

Baseball: the sport where you stand around for 20 minutes and move 3 feet to the left and move 3 feet to the right. It’s so intense. It’s so intense that you could take a nap on the field with everything out there. Of course, I’m being sarcastic. The only time it’s actually fun is when you’re annihilating the other team while they’re asleep on the field.…

My hands gripped my lacrosse stick tightly and my eyes stared at the ball, which was trapped between two girls. I waited. I waited for the whistle to sound and the ball to fly in the air, the yellow of it vanishing into the sun. I was ready. I could hear the steady breathing of the girl next to me and the beating of my heart.…

My very first baseball game I can remember it like it was yesterday. A hot sunny day Burning the pavement, the heat beating down on our car as we drive to downtown Houston. After three exhausting hours and two tire blowouts we finally arrived at Minute Maid Park the home of the Houston Astros, my first baseball game. Once we got past the security line we were free to go to our seats which were located in the middle of first and home. We got there about half an hour before the game started so the batters were out in the batting cage crushing the ball with a mighty swing, I was hypnotized by how gracefully they moved their…

One situation where I found myself in a fixed mindset was when I was a freshman at Mountain Pointe high school trying to make the baseball team. At the time, I had a half-hearted passion for baseball that made me want to be on the school baseball team, but I felt that everything would come natural to me because I was Dominican. I was quite proud of how Dominicans were typically great at baseball quite naturally it seemed. However, with this knowledge I became highly critical about everything I did when playing baseball at the high school camps before the baseball tryouts. I did not focus on overall improvement as I tried to ensure that every throw, batting, and pitch was perfect.…

Every pregame needs to feel, look and operate the same way or I feel like we lost before ever stepping out on to the field. Running through sprints, catching fly balls, fielding grounders all has to be timed. I even have to play catch with the same person before every game, it just feels right knowing that he and I are almost in sync. Every time I start a game on the mound, I need to get a nice 30 pitch bullpen session in. Every pitch is scripted, the pitch, the location, even how hard I throw it is all written in and done the same.…

The parking lot was packed and people were lined all the way down the fence. Standing in the dugout to cheering on one of my teammates you could not tell it was a not a major-league baseball game. The atmosphere at the park was amazing and the cheers for the players were so loud that some fans had to cover their ears. Someone that were just driving by would have no idea this was not your average baseball game. All play is a baseball and softball organization for kids with mental handicaps and physical handicaps.…

Sixty miles per hour is the speed at which the average softball player throws the ball; so I guess you could say I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I believe I was exactly where I was supposed to be. You know how some people say there was a certain moment that changed their life completely? Well, this was that moment for me, and it all was caused by a miscommunication. Miscommunications happen all of the time, but with a softball that isn't actually soft, and someone standing only 30 feet away from you; well you can already see the implications. At the time, I didn't see what was going to unfold, but I had a bad feeling about what was to come.…

Throughout this life full of temporaries, one thing that has stayed constant is the game of softball. Between watching my sister play and playing myself- I grew up on a softball field. When I was finally old enough to begin playing, it started as just another fun after-school activity; little did I know it would soon take over my life. I went from rec league to playing competitive travel league softball. As I got older, my main goal was to make the Boyle County Middle School softball.…

Throughout my childhood, the passion for sports has been on full display. Many of my friends and family often call me a sports fanatic, as usually almost every day, I watch the latest Sports Center or replays of classic sporting events. However, during this time, I have come to appreciate a sport a lot more than I used to, and that is softball. Often during the summer, I can be seen in Webster, NY, watching my sister play softball for The Webster Xtreme Softball Organization. She has become a great player and has been ranked the number one player in the organization for the past couple of years.…

I have participated in the all-star competition cheerleading world since I was a very young girl. Over the last ten years, cheerleading has not only taught me how to stunt, tumble and dance, it has also taught me so many remarkable life lessons, such as leadership, teamwork, determination, and perseverance. One important lesson I have learned over the years is how to overcome failure as well as learning to control the fear of failure. The all-star cheerleading industry is very competitive; one small mistake in a routine can make an incredible impact on the outcome of the competition.…

I did my observation at Miami’s women’s soccer game on September 6 against Florida International’s team. It also happened to be Senior Day, so a lot of families were there. There were also a lot of young girls wearing soccer jerseys, which makes me think that a soccer team was there. It was a very hot (around 90 degrees) and sunny afternoon, and a lot of people were sitting with umbrellas to block the sun. Both teams played very hard, but neither team scored until the last 9 minutes.…
