Personal Narrative: Stand Up

Improved Essays
Throughout the semester “Stand Up. Stand Out. Be Remarkable.,” has been emphasized, but I never really understood it until now. As the class developed, I started to realize that it is the difference between ordinary and extraordinary. I don’t want to end world hunger, or improve the education for those who are economically struggling. I want to do more and be more than just ordinary. I want to be extraordinary and leave my mark on this world. I want to make my legacy uniquely my own. “Veni – I came”(Pontz 5). When I arrived in this world, I was born to survive. As I grew older, I started to learn about this world that I grew up in. I learned about the presidents, numbers, letters, continents, Kings, Queens, etc. I had no idea what my purpose …show more content…
At the age of 15, I started to realize what was going on in this world. I understood that there was more to life than just locking myself up in a room studying. I was searching for my purpose in this world. However finding your purpose in this world is not something that can be done in a matter or days, weeks, or months. It is something that must be done over a full span of your lifetime. For instance, Martin Luther expanded the different branches of Christian church. It was not a movement done in a day. (Pontz 6) I was trying to figure out who I was and why I was here. What purpose did I have that could benefit my society? But, I started to discover that everyone has a different purpose. As a society we must bring about change in this world. However, we are scared to change. Constant change is not something to fear, but something to embrace. By embracing change, we make lives better for others. As a society we need to help make people’s lives better, each other’s lives better, and our own life …show more content…
I never thought that I would be able to impact my world for the better until today. If I was asked how I was going to live a remarkable life and change the world for the better I would’ve said I don’t know. But now, I see that there are different kinds of change and I want my change to be impactful. Although I haven’t yet conquered this world I want to start with baby steps. I don’t want to jump in immediately because I know that I am able to be extraordinary. Living my remarkable life does not only mean success in my future job, but success in my future life. Success in my future soul. Success in my future to change my world for the better. I don’t want to be an arrogant human being like Louis XIV. Louis XIV drew the attention to himself instead of his land and his people (Pontz 12). I want to draw the attention to everyone else but me. I want them all to be helped and healed physically. By helping the people physically, I want to give people a longer life to live their

While my college colleagues filled bookshelves with James Patterson novels, my library was quite different. The Tale of the Dueling Nuerosurgens, by Daniel Levitin and Sam Kean sat atop my bedroom dresser. When I learned my aunt was diagnosed with Schizophrenia, I turned through the tear-stained pages and found out that she was in battle against her own brain. Mid 2012, I experienced an event that altered my entire life when my aunt, Kulbir Kaur, at the age of 28, was announced dead after taking her own life. I was enrolled as a student at California State University of East Bay at the time and on my visits back home, I could not understand why staying in a church with only a thin curtain separating her from an elderly priest seemed more appealing…

To understand one’s purpose is to understand the meaning of life. Everyone has their own self-defined purpose. Because a purpose is self-defined, it can take a long time to realize, understand, and come to terms with this definition. As she struggles to answer this question and cope with her own misfortunes, she begins to unravel the secrets of the universe and the hidden significance of normality.…

It is often interesting viewing your world and reality through the eyes of other people, listening as they decipher and make assumptions, none all that accurate, about the facts, while you 're left to live those facts. Americans have a lot of opinions about Haiti and about as many questions too. As soon as people know that I’m Haitian, I get flooded with questions that I highly doubt they want the answers to: “Why is Haiti so poor?” “Do you do voodoo?” “Where does all the relief money go?”…

The Pursuit of Happiness “The pursuit of happiness.” (Declaration of Independence, Independence) This quote was originally supposed to be “the pursuit of property”, however Thomas Jefferson, with felicitous insight, changed the words and made one of the most recognizable and important sayings in the English language. There is an ever going debate over whether a person’s character is created or found; according to Thomas Szasz, “People often say that this or that person has not yet found himself. But the self is not something one finds, it is something one creates.” However, this is only true in one regard. Thomas Szasz is saying that we must form our own identities and characters as we develop. However, this is only partly true, one’s self must be both found and created.…

Part of your most recent plan was to be here now, you chose this human existence that you are currently experiencing, you pre- planned every detail of your life in order to gain the maximum learning and adventure, and you choose to exit when you have completed all the experiences you planned for yourself. The world away from this world (the universe) is not separate from us, it is not some far away mystery; it is a logical, functioning, populated, progressive, divine place! Much like here on earth (without all the stuff), except here on earth we have temporarily forgotten the divine and infinite bits of ourselves! If I can be a bit honest here, as humans we have become self-obsessed, self-absorbed and rather blinded by our own self-importance.…

I began questioning a lot of things in my life with no real answer to come up with. One of those questions was, what is the meaning of life? It seems like a simple question, but thinking harder about it made me realize that I really did not know what the true meaning of life was. If there is no meaning in life why not kill oneself? This was an important question for philosophers like Albert Camus, and Immanuel Kant who both had intelligent and unique views on life, but with exceedingly opposite opinions.…
