Personal Narrative: St. Didacus

“A good school provides a rounded education for the whole person. And a good catholic school, over and above this, should help all its students to become saints.” This powerful quote by Pope Benedict XVI really made me reflect on the countless people that throughout my years at St.Didacus have wanted exactly this for me. Not only demonstrated in the school , but the parish community as well. We hear the word “community” so much from preschool to 8th grade, however, not until now do I feel the power of the word. For 12 years, my parents have sacrificed so that this very special place, called St. Didacus would prepare me for the greatest gift of all, to be with God forever.
When I was in second grade, my mom had a stroke. I remember how sad I was, I really didn't know what was going to happen to her. Every night a different family from the community would deliver dinner to us. They would often write little notes to my sisters and I, with kind words that made us feel much better. This made us feel so special and it helped us feel like we belonged. This is just one instance that the St. Didacus community has been there for my family and I.

St. Didacus has been a huge part of my life. I have grown academically, physically but most importantly spiritually. When I was younger, I remember seeing both of my sisters graduate and I was very sad that they left but also proud of their accomplishments. I hoped that someday I would be like them and walk out of the school doors with Jesus at my side. Every day I see children from public school and I secretly thank God for my education and the way the school has taught me to act. I thank the only Pastor I have ever known here at St. Didacus , our leader Fr. Mike, Mrs. LaCosta and Mrs. Tollefson, every teacher and staff member that has played a role in teaching me to be saint some

However, it would be better if the author considered some positive sides of having prayers in school like promoting morals and encouraging children to help others. But in general, the argument is stronger because the article talks about consequences of having prayers in real life. The article contains some impressing real life examples that perfectly shows the impacts of having prayers on children and indicates how having different religious thoughts can cause its holder get offended and ridiculed by other children. Also, offering a solution to the problem being discussed can make the argument stronger. The article offers an alternative to this issue that children who like to get religious lessons can join the bible clubs that meet in…

“Look at this place, all of you,” Schäffer said to the others, observing the architecture at the front part of the school, “And examine the wonder of this place. Splendid as it is, every one of us can safely agree that it is gleaming beacon to one of those days when the Children’s Paradise was just beginning to make its appearance in the shape as it is to this day. Someday, and I am not sure when, but when the time will come for us to see the Children’s Paradise soaring higher than it ever had, I would like to see ourselves at the forefront of this renaissance. The rebirth of American Catholic Education, its sudden ushering of the Greater American Catholic School System did not end with the beginning of the Republic; nor did it end, when the Great Leaps Westward marked the beginning of the attempts made to expand both Programs all the way to the West Coast. It continues even to this day, for there is much that…

Just like before with incredible speed we left the moon and approached another heavenly body. The next planate or circle that I saw as during the ascent appeared to be Mercury which due to its extreme heat as Beatrice explained in her motherly voice is reserved for the Ambitious, which aspire fame and light. We landed on the surface of the body and it was hotter then anything that I had experienced back home. During my tour here I meet many great men but the one that hit closest to home was probably Emperor Justinian he introduced himself to me in regal form as” Caesar I was and am Justinian.” This brief exchange made me thin how his earthly titles have been stripped away in this place, but his personality remains even here in heaven.…

Its goal is to provide children with “‘a classical and Christ-centered education.’” The Logos School has been notably successful and has catalyzed a movement in classical Christian education. To further said movement, “in 1990, Wilson started the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS).” Though the classical education movement is far from solving the problem of education, the results are certainly promising. “Today, its ranks include Logos and more than 230 other private schools that serve about 44,000 students” (Miller…

The Rule of St. Benedict, written approximately 530 CE, is based on the writings of Benedict himself. The Rule of St. Benedict is a guide for the cenobitic monk and their way of life. In the introduction, Benedict discusses a school for the Lord’s service and advises that there is need of some strictness and a requirement for discipline on their part, both to correct the faults they have and to protect our love for each other, and that taking this path will be troublesome in the beginning because it is difficult to live under another's guidance. Lastly, the most essential thing is to keep our eyes on the objective: everlasting life with Christ, in his kingdom.…

Being brought up in a Catholic community and school system has built my moral foundation, beliefs and values that I wish to share with others through my teaching practice. The Catholic school system is a compassionate, caring and supportive environment with the idea of a family community. The community becomes your family as the Catholic school system welcomes diversity and teaches individuals to love, respect and treat everyone and everything as you wish to be treated, as we are all brothers and sisters and children of God. I want to be able to teach and share these amazing teachings in all my classrooms.…

The close connection between the Catholic Church and Catholic schools is evident in the many layers of the Catholic school’s purpose. A Catholic school is preferably ‘an expression of Church’ (White, XXXX, p9) and Christ centred as ‘Christ is the foundation of the whole educational enterprise in a Catholic school’ (Congregation for Catholic Education, 1977, para. 34). With this in mind, Catholic schools purposefully live the Gospel in word and deed to ensure the centrality of Christ. The Catholic school’s task is a ‘synthesis of culture and faith, and a synthesis of faith and life’ (Congregation for Catholic Education, 1977, para. 37).…

This challenges teachers to become more aware of the theoretical and theological underpinnings of any learning and teaching activities utilised for religious education in Catholic schools. Faith is both a personal assent of truth and a received theological virtue; the transmission of the Christian message through teaching implies a mastery of knowledge of the truths of the faith and of the principles of spiritual life that require constant improvement’ (Educating Together in Catholic Schools, n. 26). When the school provides a catholic education it is offering the opportunity for the transformation of the individual through education; allowing students to be informed and forming the student in the Catholic vision and story. When searching for truth, it is the school that offers opportunity for students to apply a broader worldview to all aspects of life. However, it is the teacher 's task to ensure that all pedagogical and pastoral decisions in all key learning areas not only the religious education curriculum; placing emphasis on the gospel values of Jesus and the Catholic Social teachings to offer students the experience and knowledge required to develop a Catholic way of being and seeing the world…
