People always say if you mess around you will get hurt and suffer the consequences. A couple years ago this lesson fell into place.
In Springfield, Nebraska, I was at my grandmother’s house. I was with my friend Anna, my grandma, and my grandpa. It was a hot and sunny day. We were playing outside in our swimming suits playing with water guns and water balloons.

When I got up from the ground everything was spinning around in circles. I run inside and told my grandma what had happened. She

As teenagers growing up in Powder Springs, Georgia during the 1980’s, it was somewhat challenging at times to find safe and entertaining ways to occupy our time. Even though we did not have free reign to do as we chose, I would not categorize my parents as extremely strict. Relying on our parents, as if they were our personal taxi service, my sister and I struggled to find activities relatively close to home. After discovering we really enjoyed skating, we spent countless Friday and Saturday nights at the Sparkles Skating Rink in Paulding County. The indoor facility was a safe environment for teenagers, which provided my parents with a certain level of comfort to allow us to gather with friends.…

Throughout the course of my short seventeen years, I have grown and learned many things. I grew up in a small rural town called Elk Creek. There are no strangers in Elk Creek; people sleep with their doors unlocked and their windows open. Everyone who has grown up in a small town can agree that friendship and community become a second nature trait. Although I have copious amounts of love and respect for where I grew up; I believe that I do not belong there.…

A mixture of mud, blood, and dust coated our bodies; to my left and right, cannonballs flew at us. Though we knew not how or when we were going to succeed, we just knew that we had to succeed. Every hardship I had gone through had led to this moment, every hardship I went through had made me become this person. I am Lafayette, and if socialising, sailing the terrifying sea, and living in Valley Forge couldn't shake me, then no British army would.…

One of the first things I remember about going on that trip is looking down at my feet and thinking that I would die if I fell. I was nine and very light-headed at the time. It was the winter of 2009 and one of the first times I had ever gone to Colorado. The drive there took about 6 hours from our house so you can imagine my excitement at finally getting out of the car as an inpatient nine-year-old. We were renting a small two story log cabin with a hot tub on the second- floor balcony from a family that had a winter home somewhere in Florida.…

Growing up in Youngstown, Ohio I had the pleasure of living in a diverse community. I personally have never really felt uncomfortable to communicate with another person, no matter the race, gender, or religion that are. I believe that growing up in Youngstown helped me by giving me the ability to communicate with people of different categories every day. The only people that I would consider to avoid is people that seem sketchy. If I notice someone that looks like they are up to no good or just flat out not a nice person then I would avoid that person.…

I’ve lived my entire life in Indiana, as have my parents. My mom and dad were raised close to Monroe and went to Adams Central, where they met and fell in love. They ended up moving north to Fort Wayne where they had my sister and I. We began our schooling in FWCS, but we moved farther north to the tiny town of Huntertown later, which led to my sister and I switching to NACS for my high schooling and her middle and high schooling. Due to all of the events that have happened here in Indiana throughout my life, and due to most of my immediate family living in the area, I have a desire to continue living and working here.…
