Brrrrrring... The noise of my alarm clock startles me. I throw off the covers on my bed, and run across the chilly floor, to stop the ear piercing noise of my alarm. I slip into the warmth of my fuzzy slippers, and head downstairs to the kitchen to start my day. I start by pouring a cup of coffee, plop onto the couch and watch the morning news. It’s snowing they say. I walk over to the window and throw open the curtain. Frost crawls up the sides of the window, and the snow glistens outside.
I scurry to my room to get my winter wardrobe out. Hmmm, I think, where did I put my boots. I scan the room looking for my boots. Oh there they are. I slap myself in the head, realizing my boots are just beside my bed. I throw my coat and boots on, and run out the door. The cold wind slaps my face. Winter has taken much away from me throughout my life. One day when I was just nine years old my parents left me alone, and traveled into the woods in search of food and wood. I start walking over to the barn to check to see how my horses are. I pass the

“Hello?”, I question with my heart pounding in my chest. The monster, still sobbing looks up. I had no intention of hurting anyone’s feelings. “I’m sorry,” I apologize to the monster, “I feel horrible, please accept my apology.” The monster stops crying and he looks at me. A warm smile spreads across my face. The monster wipes away his tears, and smiles back. “ Do you wanna play?” I ask the monster. He nods. “ I have the perfect game to play”, I say with a smirk on my face. The monster looks at me confused, I turn around and quickly make a snowball. As I turn to face the monster I throw a snowball. “ SNOWBALL FIGHT!” I yell with excitement. Together we laugh and play in the snow, all day long. Wow I think, the both of us got our wishes. It turned out that the monster wasn’t that bad, and together we ended up happier than

We threw snowballs, played in the snow, and went sledding, in awe and thrilled at the early snow of this year. I asked my mother why it could possibly be a curse if it was so much fun. The other children and I couldn’t feel the coldness spreading, and couldn’t see the worried expressions on the adults’ faces. After the first few weeks, did we only realize how terrible this eternal winter would be. No one played any longer because it was so cold outside; a constant cycle of ice, wind, and snow.…

As I open the door to walk through my backyard, the cold quickly stings my face, legs, and hands, I realized that the walk I was about to begin would be a long and terribly bitter time. So I shut the door behind myself and started out on my adventure, walking slowly, to take in as much as I could. I noticed that overnight the ground was covered in beautiful shimmering white snow, so perfect and immaculate, it almost seemed like a waste to tread over and ruin the lovely display over my property. While I continued further into the cold I looked out at my pond and saw that it has iced over completely and fully frozen, frozen enough to walk on. So I put one step on the pond still a little unsure and not wanting to get wet and frozen!…

Spending the night was always something common for me to do at my grandparents’ house. On this particular morning it was extremely cold outside. Not the type of cold where you just might want to put on two big jackets. It was the type of cold that made you want to cringe; even the whistle of the wind was harsh to your eardrums. The type of cold that the ligaments of your fingers ached from the chills attacking at them, even they were simultaneously begging you to get them to warmth.…
